    • An occupant restraining apparatus includes a seat belt with an inflatable portion that can be placed at a high position on a lateral side of an occupant's head without using a large-capacity inflator. A push-up device with first and second levers for pushing up a shoulder belt section is provided on an upper side of a seatback. When the shoulder belt section is inflated, upper arm portions arranged on an upper side of the shoulder belt section are pressed upward, and the respective levers rotate upward about pivotably supporting portions. At this time, lower arm portions of the respective levers arranged on a lower side of the shoulder belt section rise and rotate, and a hanging member is tensed between the lower arm portions. Consequently, the inflated shoulder belt section is pushed upward, and is placed at a high position on the lateral side of the occupant's head.

    • An airbag module for use in a motor vehicle is manufactured by first to third steps. In the first step, the airbag is folded into a predetermined configuration, and in the second step, an entire external surface of the airbag, in an initially folded condition obtained in the first step, is wrapped in a bag-shaped film forming member. The bag-shaped film forming member includes a plurality of resin layers formed in a layer-stack manner with regard to a film cross-sectional direction. In the third step, the initially folded airbag is housed in the airbag-housing member in a condition wherein the airbag has an airbag volume reduced to less than the airbag volume at a time of being initially folded, by a compression force applied to the bag-shaped film forming member.

    • An air bag device for an assistant driver's seat is formed of a container having an opening for expanding an air bag on the front surface and intake ports for inletting air on the side surfaces; a lid covering the opening; valve plates provided in the container for closing the intake ports an air bag accommodated in the container in the folded state; a gas generator first gas ejecting holes for ejecting gas toward the front surface of the container and second gas ejecting holes for ejecting gas toward the valve plates; and a sealing device attached on the gas generator for sealing the first and second ejecting holes. The sealing device opens only at first gas ejecting hole portions when ejected gas pressure in the gas generator exceeds first predetermined pressure thereby allowing the gas and air flowing through the intake ports to open the air bag. The sealing device opens further at the second gas ejecting hole portions when ejected gas pressure exceeds a second gas pressure higher than the first gas pressure thereby allowing the gas to close the valve plate.

    • An air bag system for an assistant driver's seat comprises a housing including an open face to allow air bag deployment, an air bag folded in the housing, a gas generator secured to the rear wall of the housing opposite to the open face, first outlets formed in the gas generator to allow gases to flow into the air bag stored in the housing, second outlets formed in the gas generator to allow the gases to flow out of the housing, a passage defined in the housing to provide a communication between the second outlets and the outside of the housing, and a release mechanism situated in the passage for allowing the gases to flow from the gas generator into the outside of the housing through the passage when the pressure of the gases flowing through the second outlets exceeds a predetermined level.
