摘要： A method of operating an electric power assisted steering system of the kind in which an electric motor applies an assistance torque to a part of the steering system as a function of an assistance torque signal, the assistance torque reducing the force required by the driver to turn a steering wheel, comprises during normal operation generating an assistance torque signal that is dependent on the torque applied by the driver, and during a fault operation in which the torque applied by the driver is not reliably known to the system generating an assistance torque signal that is derived from a first term that has a value that varies as a function of the angular position of the steering relative to a changeable datum, the angular position of the changeable datum being updated in the event that the direction of rotation of the steering changes.

摘要： A steering column assembly includes a housing, a shaft, a sensor, a motor, an elongate rod, a nut member, an actuator housing, and end stops. The shaft may be attached to an end of a steering wheel. The sensor may generate an electrical signal in response to rotation of the rotatably mounted shaft. The motor may apply a torque to the rotatably mounted shaft. The elongate rod may be configured to rotate with the rotatably mounted shaft and may include an externally screw-threaded portion having a nut member mounted thereon. The actuator housing may define a chamber to house the motor and a cavity which restricts rotation of the nut member with respect to the housing. The rotation of the elongate rod causes axial displacement of the nut member. The end stops may engage with the nut member.

摘要： An electric circuit for use in an electric power assisted steering system comprises a motor having a plurality of phases and for each phase at least one stator coil wire that extends from the motor and terminates at a terminal end; a circuit board comprising at least one electrically conductive track supported at least partially by a carrier, the track being electrically connected to at least one drive stage switch; a connector comprising: a base part having a guide hole extending there through that in use is aligned with a corresponding through-hole in the track of the circuit board, a support arm that is connected to the base part and extends away from the base part and a connecting part that is supported by the support arm, the support arm being flexible to permit relative movement between the connecting part and the base part, and securing means for securely fixing the connector to the track of the printed circuit board. In use the at least one stator coil wire extends through the hole in the printed circuit board and the guide hole in the base part so that the wire is in electrical contact with the connecting part of the connector, the connecting part securely holding the wire in position.

摘要： A vehicle kinematic control circuit for a vehicle adjusts the track of one or more rear wheels of the vehicle through a limited angular range, using an electric motor, connected mechanically to at least one rear wheel. The motor has at least two independently operable sets of phase windings, each set comprising at least two phase windings, each set connected to a motor bridge, controlled by a microcontroller. In normal use the microcontroller generates motor control signals that apply appropriate PWM modulated voltage waveforms to the set of phase windings connected to that bridge to drive the rotor of the motor in a first manner thereby to actively steer the rear wheel. A fault detection circuit monitors the operation of the one microcontroller, the motor bridge driver circuit, and the two sets of phase windings, to detect a fault condition, and in the event of a fault condition being detected causes one of the non-faulty motor bridges and an associated non-faulty set of phase windings to be operated to drive the rotor of the motor in a second, different manner.

摘要： A control system for an electric motor comprises a current controller which produces a set of voltage demands for the motor, a current sensing means arranged to produce a current sensing output indicative of electric current in the motor, and a current signal processing means arranged to process the current sensing output signal to produce a modified current signal in which at least one harmonic component present in the current sensing output signal due to inaccuracies in the current measurement is removed or substantially reduced. The modified current signal is combined with a demanded motor current to provide the input to the current controller.

摘要： A steering column assembly includes a clamp mechanism comprising a clamp pin that passes through an opening in a shroud of the steering column assembly and an opening in a bracket that supports the shroud of the steering column assembly. A first reaction member is secured to one end of the pin and a second reaction member secured to another end of the clamp pin, the reaction members defining a length of clamp pin between them that passes through the opening in the shroud and the opening in the support bracket. A cam mechanism has a fixed part and a moving part, each having an opening through which they are threaded onto the clamp pin between one of the reaction members and the support bracket. The moving cam part is connected to a lever and free to rotate around the clamp pin as the lever is rotated, the fixed cam part being prevented from rotation around the clamp pin, a cam surface of the fixed part being in contact with a cam surface of the rotating part and configured such that rotation of the rotating cam part is converted into an axial movement of the fixed cam part resulting in a change in the overall length of the cam mechanism. The cam steering column assembly is configured so that the increase in length of the cam mechanism when in a clamped position causes the bracket to be clamped to the shroud, and the assembly further comprising a damping member that is fixed to at least one of the clamp pin, the fixed cam and the moving cam so that the resilient damping member is compressed as the cam mechanism moves to the unclamped condition so as to damp the movement of the cam mechanism.
