    • A device for applying a high voltage using a pulse voltage is provided which applies a high voltage having a pulse width τ0 to a capacitive load (1) through a pulse transformer (4), the high voltage having pulse-like peaks with a steep leading edge, wherein a capacitance C1 of the capacitive load (1) and a secondary side leakage inductance L1 of the pulse transformer (4) satisfy the equation: L1=(τ0/π)2×(1/C1). This enables enlargement of the pulse-like peaks and application of any pulse repetition frequency when the high voltage having the pulse-like peaks is applied to the capacitive load through the pulse transformer.

    • In a generator in which a stator is fixed to a housing which includes a first bracket having a bearing portion for pivotally supporting one end portion of a rotary shaft, and a second bracket covering a cooling fan that rotates with the rotary shaft, and a rotor surrounded by the stator is fixed to the rotary shaft, the stator is fixed to the first bracket, and the first bracket is integrally provided with a tubular portion which surrounds the stator permitting cooling air sucked in by the cooling fan to flow between the tubular portion and an outer periphery of the stator, and the second bracket is connected to the tubular portion. Accordingly, cost is reduced by connecting first and second brackets together without using long through-bolts, and efficiency of cooling the stator is enhanced by making the cooling air flow along the outer periphery of the stator.

    • An electric rotating machine includes a guide groove in a brush holder fixedly disposed sideways of a commutator, a coil spring mounted under compression between a closed outer end of the guide groove and a brush for exhibiting a spring force to bring an end of the brush projected from the guide groove into sliding contact with the commutator, and a cover mounted to the brush holder to cover the guide groove. The guide groove is provided at its closed outer end with a recess for receiving and holding one end of the coil spring. The brush holder includes a main holder portion having the guide groove, and a fastening portion connected to one side of the main holder portion and having a single threaded bore. The cover is of a shape to cover the brush holder and has an engage portion engages an outer side of the brush holder so as to inhibit the turning of the cover about the axis of the threaded bore. A threaded member is inserted through the cover and screwed in the threaded bore. During screwing of the threaded member, the cover can not be turned along with the threaded member, thereby facilitating the mounting of the cover to the brush holder.
