    • A vacuum pump, denoted "VUMP", comprises a pair of nested conical or bell-shaped housings, wherein at least the outer bell-shaped housing forms a part of the pump chamber and has a central inlet. The impeller structure of the pump comprises a circular series of airfoil elements so disposed as to at least partially occupy the annular space defined by the nested conical or bell-shaped members. The airfoil elements each have a vacuum surface directed axially of the impeller towards the central pump inlet. Fluid conveyed through the pump is introduced to the central inlet and directed peripherally of the pump chamber by the inner conical member. Rotation of the circular series of airfoil elements produces a strong vacuum force within the pump that serves to impel fluid through the pump by volumetric displacement.

    • An improved touch screen has enhanced optical performance and aesthetic quality. The sense electrodes and other traces on the touch screen are made less invisible to the user by substantially filling the space between the conductive traces or electrodes with isolated regions that match the light transmission characteristics of the electrodes. In capacitive and resistive touch screens, the space between ITO electrodes and other traces on the substrate is substantially filled with ITO to match the electrodes. The space between electrodes is preferably filled with isolated regions of ITO formed in a pattern. The isolated regions in the pattern may be shaped and the electrodes notched to create non-linear spaces to further reduce the visibility of the pattern. Further, the space between ITO traces can be filled with irregular-shaped ITO regions to further reduce the visibility of the space.

    • A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate having a plurality of pixel electrodes arranged in a matrix, a plurality of row terminals and common electrode terminals arranged on one side of two adjacent sides of the first substrate, a plurality of column terminals and common electrode terminals arranged on the other side of the two adjacent sides of the first substrate; a second substrate arranged to be opposite to the first substrate and to interpose a liquid crystal display with the first substrate and having a counter electrode for performing liquid crystal display by applying a voltage across the pixel electrodes and the counter electrode. The conductive region being connected to at least one of the common electrode terminals to apply a common potential to the counter electrode. Instead of using a common drive circuit, a single conductive region is formed along only a single one of the two remaining sides of the first substrate so as to allow for measuring of at least one of a voltage drop and a voltage signal delay occurring at a substantially central portion of the matrix.
