    • There is provided a golf club head capable of reliably preventing a backspin rate from varying in rainfall. A plurality of fine grooves are formed on a face surface 2. When observing a cross-sectional surface perpendicular to the face surface 2 involving a vertical line passing through the center G of gravity of the golf club head 1 with the golf club head 1 set at preset loft and lie angles, an average width of the fine grooves 4 in the cross-sectional surface is 100 μm or less and an average pitch thereof in the cross-sectional surface is 100 μm or less. Hence, the discharge of water can be accelerated by a capillary phenomenon, making it possible to reliably prevent a backspin rate of a golf ball from varying in rainfall.

    • There is provided a golf club capable of giving a strong backspin to a golf ball. A shaft 4 is connected to a head 2 formed with score lines 10 on a face surface 1 thereof. A height D from a sole face 6 of the head 2 or a horizontal plane flush with the sole face 6 is formed greater than a radius E of a golf ball 22. An upper protrusion 18 and a lower protrusion 15 are provided spacedly rearwardly of upper and lower portions of the head 2, respectively. By providing the center of gravity 21 of the head 2 in an upper portion than the center 23 of the golf ball 22, backspin can be accelerated by a gear effect generated at the time of hitting the golf ball 22. Further, the height D of up to the center of gravity 21 of the head 2 is freely adjustable.

    • A method for manufacturing a golf club head with a disparate metallic material provided on a hosel side of the head, which can improve degree of freedom in the design of a head. A head body is made up of a columnar material body 13 made from a forgeable metallic material such as copper and a disparate metallic member 12 as an axial member. The disparate metallic member 12 has its proximal end 12A inserted into a bore 14 formed along a center of axis of the material body 13, while its distal end 12B protruded in the axial direction X. The material body 13 is placed on a lower die 22 which is formed with a mold 21 defining a contour of the head body 11, and then an upper die is pressed thereto. Thus, hot forging process is carried out to form a golf club head.

    • There is provided a golf club in which the repulsion area of a face portion is enlarged. The same face in each component of the crown portion, sole portion and the like in the body portion is welded to the face portion having a strike surface by combining metal plates having different rigidity or strength. For example, the face portion on the crown portion or the sole portion is formed of a titan alloy having high rigidity or strength, and other components are formed of pure titan. By disposing such metal plates having different rigidity or strength in one component in this manner, the repulsion area on the face portion can be enlarged, and the traveling distance obtained by hitting a ball can be increased.

    • A golf club with decreased air resistance in swinging to improve a head speed. A number of depressions 26 are formed on a back 4, a crown 6 and the side surfaces of a heel 7 and toe 8 of a head 1 of a wood club for example. Each depression 26 has a first side narrower than a second side thereof so that it is egg-shaped. The section of each depression 26 is formed smooth such that a slope at the first side is more gentle than that at the second side. Each depression 26 is desirably so oriented that its comparatively gentle slope is positioned at the face 3 side. Owing to these gentle slopes, the generation of a dead air region is suppressed at the inflow side of each depression 26, thus further decreasing an air resistance in swinging.
