摘要： The invention relates to convoluting a doubled, unknotted length of thread about a clip which is closed about the gathered mouth of a tubular wrapper such as a sausage casing to form a loop by which the sausage can be hung. The clip secures the loop to the casing and the weight of the sausage merely makes a tighter grip. An apparatus to produce the loop secured to the clip and casing comprises a punch, a clip guide having opposite grooves for guiding the clip legs, a die for receiving each clip and for cooperating with the punch to close the clip around the gathered mouth end of the wrapper, a thread-withdrawing device disposed beside the clip feed path, a thread snubber and a looping hook, a winding head which is axially displaceable into the feed path for the clip, the winding head being provided with a groove in its end face and a thread-receiving recess transverse to the axis of the winding head and somewhat set back from its end face, part of the groove and the thread-receiving recess defining a hook, and means for rotating the winding head so as to form an eyelet in the thread independent of the loop, advance of the clip causing one of the clip legs to enter the eyelet and the clip thereafter closing.

摘要： When sausage casings closed at one end are filled and closed on a combined filling and closing machine in the making of sausages which in their final shape have a non-circular cross-section, the sausage casings are filled to less than their entire volumetric capacity because, e.g., a rectangular cross-section has a larger perimeter than a circular cross-section having the same area. In order to exclude air from the unfilled portion of such sausage casings as far as possible and to permit the processing of small and large sausage casings and the filling of sausage meat into a sausage casing consisting of a continuous tubing, part of the sausage casing is initially filled with the intended quantity of sausage meat. The displacing shears of the closing machine are then almost completely closed. Thereafter the filled sausage is compressed by means of pressing jaws before the sausage casing is closed. The additional sausage casing material which is required to accommodate the displaced sausage meat is pulled along between the displacing shears at the same time.

A plurality of such clips are arranged one behind the other in a bar or stack. The bar is used in combination with the clip closing device including a clip guideway and comprising means for advancing said bar toward said guideway, a die for a clip in said guideway, and retractable punch for advancing a clip in said guideway toward said die, said punch having a pair of side portions with respective outwardly directed arcuate portions for receiving the outwardly directed portions of said legs of the clip, whereby upon retraction of said punch if the clip is not closed it will be retracted with said punch so as not to permit the next clip of said bar to be advanced toward said guideway.
