    • A hydrostatic cooker includes a primary carrier chain running through inlet and outlet water legs and a secondary chain running through an intermediate steam-processing leg, with detachable carrier baskets moved through the legs by the chains. By synchronously driving the two chains at differential velocities, widely spaced carrier baskets on the primary chain can be transferred to and from the secondary chain in closely spaced relation for transit through the steam-processing leg. A reciprocable transfer carriage at the lower ends of the legs simultaneously receives an incoming carrier basket from the inlet water leg and a carrier basket which has passed through the steam leg to process its containers, upon which the carriage shifts to deliver the incoming carrier basket to the steam leg, and the carrier basket with the processed containers to the outlet water leg.

    • There is disclosed a crane having a base section, and an upper section separable from the base section. An anti-friction bearing on which the upper section swings relative to the base section has an outer race member connected to the base section. The inner race member of the bearing receives therein a ring on the upper section when the upper section is mounted on the base section. Opposing circumferential grooves in the ring and inner race member receive a locking ring which is expanded and contracted by a power actuator. When the ring bridges the grooves, the upper crane section is locked to the crane base section, and when the ring is contained entirely in one of the grooves, the crane upper section is released from the crane base section for separation of the sections.

    • The haulage vehicle has a frame member with separate front and rear sections that are connected to each other by universal means and are free to articulate in a plurality of planes. The frame rear section has a transversely mounted rear axle adjacent the rear portion on which a pair of propelling wheels are mounted and a transversely mounted intermediate axle adjacent the front portion of the frame rear section on which a pair of intermediate propelling wheels are mounted. The frame front section has a transversely mounted front axle on which a pair of front propelling wheels are mounted. Separate propelling motors are mounted adjacent each of the propelling wheels and are drivingly connected to the adjacent propelling wheel. All of the propelling wheels are steerable and the drive motors are movable therewith. A body member is supported on the frame rear section and a boom member is supported on the frame front section. The boom member is connected to the body member by a plurality of longitudinally extending flexible plates, so that the boom and body members are free to articulate in a plurality of planes. Endless conveying means are positioned in the longitudinal haulage compartment formed by the body and boom members. With this arrangement all of the propelling wheels on the haulage vehicle remain in contact with the ground as the haulage vehicle moves over uneven terrain and the haulage vehicle follows the contour of the uneven terrain.

    • An egg transfer mechanism is positioned at the discharge end of a continuously moving delivery conveyor to receive eggs arranged in a plurality of longitudinal lanes with the egg axes oriented horizontally and to transfer the eggs to a continuously moving distribution conveyor extending laterally from the delivery conveyor and having individual egg retaining pockets for carrying the eggs in a single file line with the egg axes oriented vertically. The egg transfer mechanism includes a plurality of egg transfer cups corresponding in number to the longitudinal egg lanes of the delivery conveyor. The transfer cups are spaced to receive the eggs with the major egg axes aligned horizontally. A transfer cup drive enables the transfer cups to be each driven so as to (1) dwell in an elevated horizontal position for receiving the eggs, (2) rotate downwardly accelerating to approximately the velocity of the distribution conveyor while moving therewith in generally the same direction of travel, (3) tilt longitudinally from a horizontal position to a downwardly inclined position during said rotative movement, and (4) transfer the eggs by gravity into the individual egg retained pockets of the distribution conveyor when moving at the speed of the distribution conveyor so as to not damage the eggs during the transfer operation.

    • An apparatus for mounting a wheel and tire assembly on the drive shaft or spindle of a wheel balancer or the like in driven engagement with and concentric to the axis of the shaft. The apparatus includes a tubular adapter for receiving a double faced, stepped cone wheel centering device with a plurality of pairs of slots extending from each side past the midpoint of the device to define a plurality of evenly spaced resilient fingers on each face of the stepped cone, which fingers are bent radially outward of the adjacent portion of the cone to more effectively center the wheel by engaging the machined center hole of the wheel. The wheel is centered on and is secured to the tubular flanged adapter with the aid of the stepped cone centering device, a protective collar and a wing nut. The apparatus also includes in its combination a collet-type locking device for frictionally locking the flanged adapter in driven engagement on a smooth surfaced shaft after sliding the adapter to any desired axial position on the shaft and tightening the locking device by hand without the aid of tools. The locking device may be formed on the wing nut, or may be formed on either end of the flanged adapter.
