    • A molded thermoplastic body is formed with a rectangular cavity. A molded thermoplastic insert is welded to the body in the cavity and has a top cross member, a stem member and a bottom member. The stem member has a plurality of molded fingers cantilevered on opposing sides inclined relative to the stem member longitudinal axis in one embodiment. The stem member forms the cavity into two channels. A wire shackle which may be round or square in section, a wire or molded plastic, is U-shaped with two legs. One leg is formed with notches to receive the tips of the fingers in one channel and the other leg is formed with a reversibly bent barb which engages the fingers in the other channel on the opposite side of the cavity. The bottom member limits the insertion depth of the legs. The notches and barb engage the fingers and lock the shackle to the body. When the shackle is severed, and the notched leg rotated to disengage the notches in the leg from the fingers to remove the leg from the body, the other leg with the barb can not be rotated and readily removed to thereby provide evidence of tampering. Other embodiments are disclosed including providing the notched leg with squared sides and an entrance opening into the corresponding channel that is square to preclude rotation of the notched leg and shackles of different configurations.

    • A serpentine shaped wire clip is disposed in a tapered bore of a housing for axial displacement in the bore and has in a preferred embodiment three U-shaped loops interconnected by end portions. The clip has a bore dimensioned for receiving a cable or rod in radial resilient compressive engagement along the clip entire length which engagement causes the clip to axial displace with the displacement of the cable or rod. The axial displacement of the clip in the tapered bore wedges the clip to the housing and cable or rod locking the elements. The clip may have any number of loops and wire diameter. Also, the housing may have a cylindrical bore and the tapered region may be formed on a rod or bar. The clip may be locked to smooth and grooved surfaces including threads. The housing and rod each have a different one of a cylindrical surface and tapered surface. The clip radially grips the cylindrical surface while wedging in response to relative displacement of the tapered surface to the cylindrical surface. Preferably the tapered surface is the hardest and the cylindrical surface is the softest when the cylindrical surface is smooth.

    • A padlock-type security seal including a U-shaped shackle having a pair of reversely bend end portions. A body portion and a brightly colored insert are assembled to form a pair of chambers for receiving and locking the bent end portions. Movable tangs and matching cavities are formed as an integral part of the insert adjacent the chambers. The body portion has a plurality of transparent windows adjacent the cavities. Attempts to open the seal by deforming the shackle to remove the bent end portions from the chambers will result in moving the tangs into locking containment with the cavities thereby visually indicating tampering via the transparent windows.

    • A security seal having a tag attached to a flat strap at the central portion by a pair of flexible members. The seal is adapted for sealing a box structure or container having a strap in one surface thereof and a hasp attached to the container. The tag extends upwardly so as to be visible against the surface of the hasp and container. Formed in the label and the tag surface, such as by stamping or the like, are a plurality of circular scores randomly positioned. The random positioning may be recorded to provide a means for verification. Any attempt to remove the label from the tag will result in destruction of the label.

    • A security seal having a plastic body including three elongated parallel chambers. Mating with the body is a U-shaped resilient shackle having a pair of legs each having a reversely bent end portion terminating in a sharp edge for insertion in two of the chambers. The third chamber in the body contains a frangible ampule containing a colorless liquid. A solid substance that combines with the liquid to create a third substance with a bright hue is stored in the third chamber and/or is coated on selected portions of the seal. When used to seal a structure, the shackle is threaded through the structure, and the legs are inserted into the chambers. The sharp edges of the reversely bent end portions are flexed into tight engagement with the interior walls of the chambers. In this locked position, any tampering with the security seal that would cause the shackle to move in a direction opposite to the direction in which the shackle was inserted in the body would result in the sharp edges of the reversely bent end portions penetrating the walls of the chamber, entering the third chamber, shattering the ampule, and ejecting the liquid. The ejected liquid will combine with the solid substance to form the third, brightly colored, substance to indicate tampering.

    • An all plastic fastener adapted, in one embodiment, for use as a seal for a coin bag or the like, and in another embodiment as a cable tie or the like.The seal comprises a housing having an aperture therethrough and an integral shackle extending from the housing for insertion into the housing opening. The shackle has ratchet teeth along the outer edges, and the housing has internal means for engaging the ratchet teeth when the shackle is pulled through the opening, to prevent reverse movement of the shackle in the housing. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the shackle has an axial slot disposed in the portion having the teeth to allow the sides of the shackle to flex together when it is drawn through the housing. When used as a security seal, a locking member may be inserted into the slot between the shackle portions in the housing to maintain them pressed outwardly into engagement with the locking members in the housing. The locking member may be a segment of the housing wall impressed inwardly by a suitable tool, or may be a member formed on the end of an integral strap molded in the slot, which may be pulled into position after the seal is assembled.
