摘要： A packaged coil of steel strip material is provided by wrapping a stiff protective material around the outer circumference of the coil to provide overhanging projections of protective material at each end of the coil and then deforming the projections radially inwardly to overlie the end faces. The wrapping material is corrugated along its longitudinal edges to facilitate its radially inward deformation by passing it through cooperating pairs of toothed crimping wheels prior to wrapping it around the coil. The radially inward deformation of the corrugated edges of the wrapping material is carried out by fluted pressure rollers acting at the end faces of the coil.

摘要： A method of adding an alloying addition, such as lead, to a ferrous metal, by bubbling inert gas, such as argon, through the ferrous metal whilst the metal is contained in a ladle and adding the alloying addition to the turbulent zone created by the passage of the inert gas. The temperature of the ferrous metal in the ladle is maintained above its customary teeming temperature during the adding of the alloying addition. When all the alloying addition has been added the temperature of the metal is allowed to cool to its customary teeming temperature whilst the inert gas is continued to be passed. The ferrous metal is then teemed from the ladle into moulds.

摘要： An electric arc furnace adapted to be powered by direct current includes a bottom electrode of one polarity (positive) mounted in the vessel for contact with the charge and three electrodes of negative polarity depending into the vessel from above. The arcs from the electrodes migrate inwardly which is the opposite of the case with a.c. thus reducing erosion of the furnace walls by concentrating the heat source in the centre. The bottom electrode design is such as to enable the furnace to be tapped whilst maintaining a reservoir of metal for the succeeding charge.

摘要： A chain securing device consists of two identical blocks connected to a crane hook ring. Each block has an opening through which chains can be passed. The openings have slot portions shaped to retain the chain ends. A chain can be inserted into the device and secured with any desired link retained in the opening so that the effective length of the chain can be adjusted at will. The chain can also easily be detached from the device.
