    • A single-element objective lens is employed in an optical pick-up. The objective lens directs an incident light beam to a data recording surface of an optical disc through a cover layer to form a beam spot thereon. A numerical aperture of the objective lens is 0.7 or more. The objective lens is configured such that a characteristic of aberration which is generated due to decentering of surfaces of the objective lens is substantially comparable to a characteristic of aberration due to an inclination of an optical axis of the objective lens and an inclination of a central axis of the light beam incident on the data recording surface of the optical disc with respect to the optical disc.

    • A scanning optical system includes a polygonal mirror that deflects the even number of beams, which are incident thereon along optical paths arranged symmetrically with respect to a plane perpendicular to a rotation axis thereof. An imaging optical system for converging the beams includes lenses for converging the beam, in an auxiliary scanning direction, respectively. The lenses have the same shapes, and are arranged symmetrically with respect to the plane. The orientation of the lenses on one side of the plane is oriented oppositely, in the auxiliary scanning direction, to the other lenses located on the other side of the plane.

    • In an optical viewer instrument with a photographing function, there is provided a telescopic lens system for observing objects, and a digital camera system including a solid-state image sensor and a photographing lens system associated with each other such that an object is formed as a photographed image on the solid-state image sensor through the photographing lens system. A manually-operable focussing mechanism is associated with the telescopic lens system and the photographing lens system such that the object is brought into focus through the telescopic lens system, and such that the object is brought into focus through the photographing lens system. Optical parameters are selected such that predetermined conditions are fulfilled, whereby the focussing of the telescopic lens system and the focusing of the photographing lens system can be suitably and properly performed by the focussing mechanism.

    • In an optical viewer instrument with a photographing function, a telescopic lens system is used for observing an object, and a digital camera is used for photographing an object. The digital camera includes a CCD image sensor and a photographing lens system associated with each other such that the object is formed as a photographic image on the sensor through the photographing lens system. An automatically-operable focussing mechanism is associated with the photographing lens system such that the object is brought into focus through the telescopic lens system, and such that the object is brought into focus through the photographing lens system.
