THE LOWER END OPENING OF THE CONDUIT IS SUBSTANTIALLY SMALLER THAN THE CROSS SECTION OF THE CANAL. THE MIXTURE IS ALLOWED TO FALL FROM THE LOWER END OF THE CONDUIT TO REACH THE INTERIOR OF THE FURNACE AFTER A FREE FALL THROUGH THE CANAL, AND A GAS BLOWS DOWNWARD THROUGH THE CANAL. A HOLLOW ELECTRODE IS USED HAVING A FEED SPOUT PROVIDED CENTRALLY WITHIN THE VERTICAL CANAL AND ABOVE THE HIGH TEMEPERATURE REGION OF THE ELECTRODE, THE OUTLET OPENING

The combination of a protective device has near at least one of the electrodes, a vaporizable means of material different from that of said electrode portion so as to effect, when burning off, a change in spectral distribution of the gas jet. Also provided is a signal generating arrangement that is responsive to the spectral distribution for deriving a signal from the change.

摘要： An electrode has a detachable tip secured to a supporting column. The column includes fluid-channeling and electrically conducting tubes, electrically insulated from each other, extending at least a portion of the way therethrough toward the tip. Within the removable tip is a detachable magnetic field coil assembly including conduit extensions which, when the coil assembly is inserted in the electrode, are aligned with the tubes respectively. Male fittings engage contact finger assemblies and make good electrical connection. The fittings may be on the tubes and the contact finger assemblies may be on the conduit extensions, or the fittings may be on the conduit extensions and the contact finger assemblies may be secured to the ends of the tubes. Means carried by the column, or the conduit extensions including fittings or finger assemblies thereon, or both, provide fluidtight seals for the cooling fluid flow circuit through the magnetic field coil.

摘要： The invention discloses a method about the integration of the metallurgical purification of metallic gadolinium and the preparation of gadolinium oxide nanoparticles (GONPs) by arc plasma. The method includes the metallurgical purification and the nanoparticle preparation. Firstly, the gadolinium ingot and a tungsten rod respectively act as an anode and a cathode. After the arc furnace is evacuated and then is filled with a working atmosphere, impurities in the gadolinium ingot are removed in the form of volatilization to obtain purified gadolinium by the first arc discharge. Whereafter, the purified gadolinium and the tungsten rod are used as the anode and cathode. After the arc furnace also is evacuated and then also is filled with a working atmosphere, GONPs are obtained from the inner wall of the arc furnace though the second arc discharge. The metallurgical purification of metallic gadolinium and the preparation of GONPs were integrated by arc plasma.

摘要： An electrode joining apparatus for joining a free electrode to a fixed electrode. The electrode joining apparatus includes an electrode holder configured to selectively hold the fixed electrode and a torque device positioned above the electrode holder, the torque device configured to grip and spin the free electrode to join the electrodes. The electrode joining apparatus can include an axial passage defined through the electrode holder and the torque device. A retractable spacer can be movably connected to the electrode joining apparatus, the retractable spacer configured to selectively move into the axial passage. The retractable spacer can be used to form a gap between the free electrode and the fixed electrode before the joining process is initiated. Electrode joining apparatus can also include a spacer drive mechanism coupled to the retractable spacer, the spacer drive mechanism configured to selectively move the retractable spacer into the axial passage.
