    • Phosphorus-containing compounds are disclosed which are obtainable by reacting: (A) at least one organophosphorus compound having a group selected from the group H—P═O; the group P—H and the group P—OH; and (B) at least one compound having the following Formula (I): [R′(Y)m′]m(X—O—R″)n  Formula (I) wherein R′ is an organic group; Y is a functional group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, carboxylic acid, and amine; X is a hydrocarbylene group; R″ is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, R is alkyl or aryl group having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms; m′, m and n are, independently, numbers equal to or greater than 1. These compounds are useful for making flame retardant epoxy and polyurethane resins and ignition resistant thermoplastic resins, each of which is useful for a variety of end uses requiring flame retardancy or ignition resistance. Flame retardant epoxy resins may be used to make electrical laminates. Flame retardant polyurethane is useful for making rigid polyurethane foam used in construction and flexible polyurethane foam used to make vehicle upholstery. Ignition resistant thermoplastic resins are useful for making television cabinets, computer monitors, printer housings, automotive parts, and housings and parts for appliances. This invention is particularly useful in end use applications in which a low bromine or low halogen content is required or desired.

    • There is provided a compositions of resist underlayer films for EUV lithography that is used in a production process of devices employing EUV lithography, that reduces adverse effects caused by EUV, and that has a beneficial effect on the formation of a favorable resist pattern; and a method for forming resist patterns using the composition of resist underlayer films for EUV lithography. A composition for forming a resist underlayer film for an EUV lithography process used in production of a semiconductor device, comprising a novolac resin containing a halogen atom. The novolac resin may include a cross-linkable group composed of an epoxy group, a hydroxy group, or a combination thereof. The halogen atom may be a bromine atom or an iodine atom. The novolac resin may be a reaction product of a novolac resin or an epoxidized novolac resin and a halogenated benzoic acid; or a reaction product of a glycidyloxy novolac resin and diiodosalicylic acid.

    • A composition, test device and method of determining the presence or concentration of proteins, such as albumin, in a liquid test sample, such as urine. The test device includes a test pad with a carrier matrix incorporating a indicator reagent composition capable of interacting with proteins to produce a detectable response. The indicator reagent composition includes an indicator dye that is capable of interacting with albumin and undergoing a detectable color transition; a buffer; a hydrophobic polymeric compound having the general structural formula: ##STR1## wherein A is ##STR2## and PO is an oxypropylene unit, EO is an oxyethylene unit, y is a number in the range of 0 to about 20, z is a number in the range of 0 to about 20, the sum y+z is a number in the range of about 2 to about 20, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are selected, independently, from the group consisting of hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aralkyl group, and an aryl group;R.sub.1 is either methylene or oxygen;n is a number in the range of one to about 8; andE is hydrogen or methylol when R.sub.1 is methylene, or E is hydroxy when R.sub.1 is oxygen; and a suitable carrier which is water. The indicator reagent composition provides an improved color resolution in the test samples raving negative protein and trace amount of protein.

    • Cathodically depositable self-crosslinking binders for electrodeposition based on alkylphenol novolaks wherein an alkylphenol novolak having a molecular weight of at least 500 and a hydroxyl value of between 100 and 700 mg KOH/g, modified through self-condensation or etherification of the phenolic hydroxy groups, obtained through a reaction catalyzed with an acid (component A), is reacted simultaneously or separately with (B) amines which carry a tertiary amino group and at least one hydroxy group or primary or secondary amino group (component B) and (C) aromatic or aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanates (component C), the weight ratio of components being chosen in order that for each mole of component (B) 2 to 4 NCO-equivalents of component (C) are present and that the resultant isocyanate-group-free reaction product has an amine value of between 40 and 120 mg KOH/g is described. The binders are internally plasticized to provide increased flexibility of coatings prepared from the binders which are essentially chip resistant.
