    • The present invention relates to pneumatic tube systems generally. More specifically, it relates to an automated system for the storage and distribution of empty carriers for a pneumatic tube system. The system comprises an easy to use one-touch process and includes the following apparatus: storage cabinets and pneumatic tube system comprising a blower, controller, retrieval cabinets, and main station. According to the invention there is provided an automated storage and distribution system comprising a pneumatic tube system; a first diverter with blower, and a storage cabinet with a second diverter. The system comprises several methods which are currently in the market place, and is useful in many places, such as hospitals, where the automated processing of pharmaceutical products via robot devices is used. Such a system is disclosed in co-pending application Parenteral Products Automation System (PPAS), application Ser. No. 08/513,569.

    • A customer terminal for a single tube pneumatic system for banking and the like features a two-piece carrier receiver which includes a carrier tray that first moves downwardly from a stationary receiver housing and then forwardly and upwardly to present a carrier in the tray to a customer, the tray and carrier remaining parallel to the receiver housing. The tray is resiliently mounted to the mechanism which manipulates it and the joint between the tray and housing is contoured both to improve sealing between the two parts and to reduce wear on the seal itself. The air pressure/exhaust ports into the carrier chamber within the receiver are disposed between the ends of the chamber in order to provide an air cushion for reducing the shock of an arriving carrier and to prevent loose items in the system from being sucked into the blower.

    • A pneumatic dispatch system having a plurality of forwarding tube paths and an arrangement for transferring a dispatch case between two paths including a pair of pneumatic post stations interconnected by a single tube line characterized by each of the pneumatic post stations having a first tube chamber connected to a second tube chamber which extends parallel thereto and forms a reception chamber. The two tube chambers move within a housing of the station between a first position with the first chamber aligned with the tube sections forming the forwarding tube path and the second reception chamber being in alignment with the connecting tube to a second position with the second chamber being in a position to catch and retain a dispatch case traveling in the path. Preferably, each of the stations is provided with a feed line which has a valve to enable control of flow therein with the feed line extending between a tube section of the forwarding tube path and a port or air passage connected to the interior of the second chamber. If the valve is a three-way valve, the interior of the chamber can be selectively connected through the feed line to either the air in the system or the outside air.
