    • A brake control valve for an automobile includes a main body having first and second bores intersecting with each other; a ball valve member arranged in the first bore, and rolled by its weight when the automobile is facing upwardly on an inclined road-way; a valve seat arranged in the first bore, and engageable with the ball valve member to check brake fluid flow between a master cylinder and a wheel cylinder; and a cam shaft slidably fitted into the second bore and inter-connected to a clutch pedal, having a cam portion in a brake fluid passage. Areas of the cam shaft at both sides of the cam portion receiving fluid pressure are substantially equal to each other. The cam shaft is rotated round its axis with actuation of the clutch pedal to displace the ball valve member through the cam portion for opening and closing the valve seat when the automobile is facing upwardly on the inclined roadway.

    • A train braking system is provided which operates conventionally to effect braking by a reduction of pressure in a brake pipe and which includes on a car of the train a fluid flow sensor operating in response to a pressure gradient due to flow over a length of the brake pipe in the car or over an interposed restriction in the brake pipe, the fluid flow sensor being sensitive to such flow to operate a valve via which fluid is permitted to be applied to or removed from the brake pipe ahead of the restriction or brake pipe section having regard to the direction of propagation to tend to enhance a pressure change being caused by the flow.

    • Disclosed is a hydraulic brake system utilizing a valve operative to lock hydraulic brake fluid in the wheel cylinders. The valve includes a cylindrical body with a horizontal bore passing therethrough and surrounded by an electrically energized coil. A magnetic ball is disposed in an enlarged chamber intermediate the magnetic core and the outlet from the valve and is operative to act as a check valve to limit fluid flow in one direction when the coil is energized. Also disclosed is a circuit for activating the valve which is adapted to operate in conjunction with the brake light switch and ignition switch of a motor vehicle.

    • A control device for the actuation of a hydraulic load, such as a disk brake, includes a cylinder with an outlet leading to the load, this outlet being separated from an adjoining cylinder chamber by a valve body provided with an elastically deformable peripheral skirt and with a capillary central passage. During the forward stroke of a piston acting upon an oil volume in the cylinder chamber under extraneous pressure, oil can flow around the valve body into the outlet to actuate the load. During the return stroke upon the release of the applied pressure, the deformable skirt blocks the peripheral path of the oil whereby the same can return to the cylinder chamber only through the capillary passage, at a reduced rate, the oil volume in the chamber being supplemented from an adjoining reservoir communicating therewith in the retracted piston position.
