    • A soft plastic Brachy tube cap has a tubular body with one closed and one open end. The body's internal bore is sized so that the end of a Brachy tube fits snugly within the body when inserted through the open end. A pair of spaced locking rings integral with the body are adapted to fit about the Brachy tube. If the cap receives pressure towards removal, the two rings deform, through the pressure on the connecting straps, which results in reducing the bore radius and causes them to bend tighter on the Brachy tube. This prevents displacement of the caps.

    • A minimally invasive intravascular medical device for providing a radiation treatment in a body passageway such as a coronary vessel of the vascular system. The device includes a flexible elongated member having distal and proximal portions. The distal portion is percutaneously insertable into a vessel and includes a distal end that is directable through the vessel to the treatment site. A radiation source is attached about the distal portion for delivering a radiation treatment to the walls a vessel having a stent positioned thereagainst. The distal portion of the elongated member includes a wire coil positioned about the tapered distal end of a mandril wire. The combination of the wire coil and the tapered distal end of the mandril wire provides variable flexibility to the distal portion of the device. The distal portion also has a predetermined curvature for directing the distal end of the device through the vessel. A safety wire is also extendable through the passageway of the wire coil to provide further flexibility to the distal portion. The radiation source is fixedly positioned about either the tapered distal end of the mandril wire or the safety wire in the passageway of the wire coil. An annular recess is included about the tapered distal end of the mandril wire to fixedly position a source of radioactive material therein.

    • A method of forming implantable low dose solid radioactive segments of desired lengths sealed against end leakage of radioactive particles, for use in brachytherapy of malignant tumors. The segments are separated from a single continuous elongate assembly of composite material which includes a continuous solid radioactive elongate core at least partly composed of iridium, sufficiently brittle to break cleanly when cut transverse to its longitudinal axis, encased along substantially its entire longitudinal surface in a sheath having a predetermined thickness and composed of substantially pure platinum or other metal which is malleable relative to the hardness of the core and, when irradiated, has a half-life much shorter than that of the core. When a radioactive segment of selected length is needed for use as a brachytherapy implant, the continuous assembly is cut transversely to provide the selected length, using a pair of scissors having opposed blunt blades, by bringing a portion of the assembly transversely between the blunt blades and thereupon exerting a cutting force on the assembly lying therebetween to break the core cleanly at that point while squeezing the sheath firmly about the newly cut end of the core to encapsulate and substantially seal it within the sheath against radioactive leakage at the newly cut end.
