摘要： A sock whose leg portion has wicking regions interspersed among fabric folds which are adapted to increase the effective surface area of the leg portion. The foot and leg portions of the sock may be constructed of the same material, such as synthetic, hydrophobic yarns, and formed in a unitary manner, either by weaving or knitting. The wicking regions may be formed using stitching along outer edges of a plurality of diamond shapes. Alternatively, the wicking regions may be formed by a set of first fabric bands, wherein the fabric folds comprise a set of second fabric bands, and the first and second bands alternate horizontally along a length of the tubular leg portion. The first fabric bands are preferably elastic or stretchable to maintain the first fabric bands in intimate contact with a wearer's skin.

The plies are joined adjacent a top opening in the leg portion and arranged to receive a wearer's foot. A seam joins the plies and is located substantially adjacent the merging of the foot and leg portions to maintain proper alignment of the foot portions of the two plies. Methods of making a two ply sock are also disclosed. Preferably, the seam connecting the plies is knit such that the plies maintain proper alignment with one another.

摘要： A two-ply inflatable sock whose dimension and fit is adjustable by the wearer is provided. The sock has an inner layer constructed of a wicking material and a water repellant outer layer. An inflatable toe cup positioned between the inner and outer layers and is adapted to encase the toes of the wearer, while an inflatable heel collar, likewise disposed between the inner and outer layers, is adapted to circumscribe the heel. The wearer may adjustably control the inflation of the toe cup and heel collar by manipulating finger pump and air release mechanisms so as to alter the dimension and fit of the sock. The toe cup and heel collar may be partially filled with a gel material, such as a plastisol or hydrogel.

摘要： A foot protector in combination with hosiery, such as high fashion women's hosiery, is provided to be worn on a foot of a wearer. The foot protector is designed and constructed to provide cushioning comfort to a ball portion, i.e., bottom or planar areas thereof, of a wearer's foot to concentrate cushioning to where most needed. The foot protector preferably is a knit footlet having integrally knit thickened cushion areas provided only in ball portion areas thereof, whereby other areas of the footlet are not thickened to such an amount as to make a shoe feel undersized and tight on a wearer's foot. The knit thickened cushion areas have terry loops integrally knit only in a ball portion of the footlet and are so constructed as to underlie only a corresponding ball portion of a wearer's foot. A method of forming a foot protector arranged to be positioned over a wearer's foot is also provided which includes knitting at least one body yarn to form at least heel, arch, ball and toe portions and define a footlet and integrally knitting terry loops with the one body yarn only in the ball portion of the footlet. A method of wearing a foot protector over a wearer's foot and underneath other hosiery is further provided and includes positioning knit thickened cushion areas of terry loops integrally knit only in ball portion areas of a footlet so as to underlie and intimately contact only a ball portion of a wearer's foot.

The upper and lower leg portions are of substantially the same length and are joined together at substantially the medial portion of the enlarged calf area of the leg of the wearer so that the upper edge of the western boot engages the upper wear-resistant portion of the leg of the sock.

The sock is knit on a fine gauge machine of the type normally employed in knitting ladies' sheer hosiery and panty hose, usually provided with 400 needles. The sock is knit on every other or alternative needles so that it contains only 200 wales instead of the normal 400 wales usually contained in ladies' sheer hosiery articles. Into the sole, heel and toe regions of the sock is knitted a yarn of feltable textile fibres, preferably wool, forming loop pile meshes therein. After knitting, the sock is subjected to a fulling treatment, whereby the fibres of the yarn knitted into the sole, heel and toe regions of the sock are felted, thus forming soft fibrous layers internally as well as externally in these sock regions.The loop pile meshes and the subsequent fulling treatment thereof make the sole, heel and toe regions of the sock soft and pliable. Because the entire sock is knitted from non-feltable yarns, the sock obtains the desired elasticity and good fit. After fulling the loop pile meshes from a tight structure capable of absorbing and distributing perspiration moisture.
