The linear cam structure and the interior cavity have tapered lateral sides.

    • An electronic musical instrument for reproducing chords or pure tones in a fixed interval scale, called Modified Eastern Music Tru-Scale Octave Transformation by the inventors, without overtone collision. The instrument includes a memory for storing and reproducing the 24 octave frequency interval system. The inventive instrument reproduces single or multiple notes with an interval system which eliminates dissonance, and allows complete modulation in all key signatures and pure tone relationships without altering the keyboard. The invention also contemplates the use of the Modified Eastern Music Tru-Scale frequencies with all MIDI interface compatible instruments or devices, in conjunction with a suitable frequency generator, or through internal or external memory sources. The invention also can be applied to a fretted stringed musical instrument which provides a novel fretboard for generating overtone collision-free tones with complete modulation of the Modified Eastern Music Tru-Scale Octave Transformation. Generation of these frequencies might be acoustical or "direct" (to an amplifier) electronic production. The string length, determined by a ratio, is calculated to produce a closed number relationships for independent time-space frequencies.

    • A neck rod member for stringed instruments, particularly for a bass guitar, includes two rod portions which extend parallel to each other and are mounted one above the other. The first ends of the rod portions are fixedly connected to each other. An adjustment device is mounted on the second ends of the rod portions for effectively shortening the length of one of the rod portions relative to the effective length of the other of the rod portions, so that a corresponding bending force is imparted on the neck rod member. The adjustment device includes a threaded shaft attached to the second end of one of the rod portions and an adjusting nut mounted with threaded engagement on the threaded shaft. A follower member is mounted on the second end of the other of the rod portions. The follower member is in driving engagement with the adjusting nut in axial direction of the neck rod member.

    • The invention is an electric guitar that has seven strings and a scale length of 25.5 inches. The highest string is a "top A" string that provides the guitarist access to higher notes than is available on a conventional guitar. This seven string guitar is constructed on a solid body and has a neck with twenty-four frets. The neck has "pronounced tapering" such that the proportionate relationship of the neck at the 24th fret and at the nut is greater in the present relationship than in the Fender Stratocaster guitar. The solid body has cut-aways on each side of the neck to permit fingering access to all the frets. The guitar has staggered headmachines so that the headmachine upon which the "top A" string is wound has a shorter post than those headmachines upon which the lower strings are wound. The guitar also has a vibrato bridge unit that is firmly connected to the solid body by two connecting screws and less than firmly attached to the solid body by two stabilizing screws. The vibrato bridge unit further has saddles mounted at maximum height to increase the sustain on the sounds generated by the guitar. A shim is placed between the neck and solid body to tilt the neck backwards to offset the raising of the strings by the raised saddles.

    • A stringed instrument having a body portion and a neck extending from the body portion wherein the neck includes mounting end attachable to the body portion, a distal end and an intermediate section including means for attachment of a fingerboard. An enclosed channel extends from the mounting end of the neck along a central axis to an opening at the distal end, providing a housing for a rigid bar disposed within the channel. This bar includes (i) an adjustment end positioned near the instrument body, (ii) a distal end extending toward the distal end of the neck, and (iii) a transverse pivot support coupled at an intermediate section of the bar and journaled within the neck. The height and width dimensions provide a close fit of the bar within the channel at a distal end thereof such that displacement of the distal end of the bar along a vertical or rotational axis results in corresponding displacement of the distal end of the neck in a bi-directional, controlled member. An adjustment mechanism interlocks with the adjustment end of the bar to provide full control in both upward and downward directions. Rotational adjustment is enabled by additional mechanisms which impose an angular force to the bar.
