    • A structure of seat cushion frame including a pair of side frame members and a square backward frame member connected between the two side frame members. In this structure, a reclining device is securely attached to predetermined securing points in each of the two side frame members, wherein such predetermined securing points are defined on the opposite sides of a central axis of the square backward frame member and also disposed on the same level with or adjacent to that central axis. Hence, a great load imparted from the reclining device is not directly exerted on the side frame members, but smoothly escaped to the square backward frame, thereby protecting the side frame members against deformation.

    • A seat assembly for use in an automotive vehicle comprising a seat cushion having a bottom surface extending between front and rear portions and a seat back pivotally coupled to the seat cushion for movement between an upright position and a folded flat position against the seat cushion. A spaced apart pair of risers is fixedly secured to the floor of the vehicle. A support bar extends between the risers spaced above the floor of the vehicle for pivotally supporting the seat assembly between a seating position generally parallel with the floor of the vehicle for supporting an occupant and a forwardly stowed position with said seat cushion generally upright relative to the floor of the vehicle. A pair of retractable support legs are pivotally coupled to the bottom of the seat cushion for movement between a support position extending between the seat cushion in the seating position and the floor of the vehicle and a storage position nested within a slot formed in the bottom of the seat cushion. A timing link extends between one of the pair of retractable support legs and the support beam for automatically moving the pair of retractable support legs between the support and storage positions in response to movement of the seat assembly between the seating and forwardly stowed positions.

An engagement profile which interacts with a mating profile of a sliding locking element is preferably provided on the backrest arm. The sliding locking element can be adjusted relative to the backrest arm through the use of an actuating device, in such a way that the mating profile can be disengaged from the engagement profile for at least a partial release of a pivoting action of the backrest arm.

    • A recliner mechanism for a seat has a support structure (1, 2) to be connected to the squab of the seat. This structure pivotally (17) supports an arm (13) to be connected to the back of the seat so that the back of the seat may move about a pivot axis. The mounting arm has a projection (15) spaced from the pivot axis (17) engaging a link (24). The link engages a pin (30) which passes through a slot (10) formed in the support structure. The pin also passes through a diametric slot (31) formed in a drive wheel (32) which is mounted for rotation relative to the support structure. The slot (10) in the support structure is located and configured to intersect the slot (31) on the drive wheel (32) at a plurality of rotational positions thereof. The drive wheel (32) is provided with a catch means (40) adapted to retain the drive wheel (32) in predetermined selected positions.
