摘要： An iron for styling hair containing opposed plates having confronting surfaces for clamping a section of hair therebetween wherein surface one or both of the plates, is formed with a plurality of depressions, e.g., dimples, distributed over its surface. The depressions are of sizes that decrease from opposite outer edges of the plate toward the centerline of the plate. At least one of the plates is heated to a temperature in the range of 380° to 450° F. whereby heat can be applied to the section of hair while clamped between the plates. The plates are preferably formed of zeolite and coated with tourmaline. The hair iron is used to facilitate coloring of hair in which coloring is applied to the hair following which the hair is rinsed and is wet, in which the hair iron is used on the wet hair so as to dry the hair, in lieu of a hair dryer, thereby putting an end to all reactions in the coloring process.

The hinge connection unit includes a hinge box secured to either of the upper and lower casings. First and second movable members each having a hinge shaft are provided in the hinge box, and move between a hinge coupling position and a hinge releasing position. An elastic member is elastically provided between the first and second movable members, and exerts an elastic force so that the hinge shaft moves to the hinge releasing position. A hinge-coupling retaining means is manipulated on an outside of the hinge box to move the hinge shaft to the hinge coupling position and simultaneously retain the hinge shaft in the hinge coupling position. A hinge-shaft connection lug is provided on a remaining one of the upper and lower casings, and has a hinge hole.

Treatment of hair closer to the root reduces the number of time the flat iron must be applied to a group of hair strands in order to achieve the desired effect while reduction of awkwardness in applying the flat iron to the hair reduces the time concentrated heat is applied near the scalp; thus greatly reducing likelihood of hair damage and scalp injury while facilitating and expediting use. A perfecting feature of the invention is provided by a curved surface of the plate and housing which allows the flat iron to be used as a curling or crimping iron.
