    • An electromagnetic shield including at least one entry hole is placed in contact with a circuit board, thereby substantially enclosing a compartment. With the shield and circuit board held together, conformal coating is introduced into the compartment through the entry hole. The conformal coating coats the exposed portions of the circuit board within the compartment, but does not coat the portions of the circuit board contacted by the shield. The circuit board may include ground traces that divide the circuit board into sections. An optional electrically conductive gasket may be used between the ground traces and the shield to provide good electrical contact between the shield and the circuit board. In addition, a connector seal may be used to form a barrier preventing entry of environmental contaminants into critical connector interface areas. The connector seal is inserted into the forwardly facing pin cavity of a male connector so that the male pins pierce through the connector seal. When the female connector is joined to the male connector, the front face of the female connector abuts the connector seal so that the connector seal forms a barrier preventing entry of environmental contaminants into the female pins and onto that portion of the male pins that are disposed within the female pins. This connector seal is preferably used in conjunction with the conformal coating process so that the connector's circuit board leads are coated by the conformal coating.

    • The present invention relates to a heat dissipating box for a printed board assembly (PBA) using natural convection for cooling. The PBA 64 is fastened between a first part 62 and a second part 61 and the joint is sealed with an elastic material 71. A back plane, which has an opening for a connector of the PBA, is mounted to the other two parts to prevent undesirable substances to get inside the box. The heat dissipating property of the PBA, mounted inside a box, increases rapidly if the PBA's heat dissipating components are placed near or in good thermal contact with the box. This can be obtained by placing bumps, for example supports 66, 68 or ridges 65, on the inside of the box, which are in close contact with the PBA. The surface area of the box may also be enlarged with cooling fins.

    • A hermetically sealed case, has a space between a top case and a bottom case which can be completely sealed by means of a waterproof packing, and in which an area around a connecting cable is completely sealed.     • The panel enclosure is used to house electrical equipment and not only shields the equipment from stray RF fields but also protects the equipment against water, moisture and the like. The enclosure is in the form of a shallow rectangular box having an opening outlined by an upwardly sloping flange. A cover has a downwardly depending skirt or lip which overlaps the flange, the cover including an interior gasket which is positioned to seat over the entire perimeter of the flange. One side of the cover is hinged to the box and the other side has securing bolts passing through the lip to engage the sloping surface of the flange. By threading the bolts inwardly, the cover is cammed into tight engagement with the gasket to provide the desired weatherproof features.
