摘要： A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, receiving a message transmitted from a web server application operating in a mobile device and inserting an identifier of a gateway device into the message to produce a modified message. The modified message includes a request to invoke a software application in the mobile device. The modified message is forwarded to a remote server to allow the server to establish communications with a media processor based on the identifier of the gateway device. The media processor invokes the software application in the mobile device based on an address supplied by the web server application allowing the mobile device to execute the software application and to establish media communication services with the media processor responsive to executing the software application. Other embodiments are disclosed.

摘要： A network addressable appliance with digital multimedia recording capabilities has limited access including playback of stored multimedia content upon faulty connection with a service provider network. Upon a connectivity event, the network addressable appliance compares a retrieved hardware address for a connected residential gateway to a stored hardware address for an assigned residential gateway. If the two hardware addresses correspond, the network addressable appliance provides playback to stored multimedia content. The system helps prevent violations of digital rights management rules by restricting access to stored multimedia content while the network addressable appliance is connected to an unauthorized residential gateway. The system provides a user with limited access (i.e. playback) to multimedia content during service provider network outages.

摘要： In a system that is capable of operating in a broadcast mode and a switched mode, it is advantageous to be able to shift program delivery between the two modes. Thus when one video program is being delivered to at least a first customer in a first mode, this program may be delivered to at least a second customer in a second mode that is different from the first mode. In this manner, the video program that is being delivered to first customer will be maintained in the original mode while new requests for this program will be served in a different mode until the delivery of the program to the first customer has been completed. In other words, legacy program delivery is maintained until the program delivery has been completed or otherwise terminated, while delivery of the program in response to new requests for the same program will be delivered in a different mode instead.
