    • There is described an image communication apparatus and an image communication program capable of transmitting image data with the output attribute conforming to the communication charge, and capable of determining the image data output attribute at an earlier phase. The image communication apparatus includes: a signal judgment section which judges specific signals received via a network; an output setting section which sets output attribution of image data to be transmitted for a destination via the network in accordance with a judgment result by the signal judgment section; a network switching section which switches a network for transmitting the image data to the destination in accordance with the judgment result by the signal judgment section. The signal judgment section judges the specific signals after requesting connection with the destination to the network and before establishing the connection with the destination. The specific signals represent charge information about communication with the destination.

    • A method and system for obtaining the capabilities of a facsimile machine. In facsimile transmission systems which utilize a communication medium in which a direct connection does not exist between the transmitting facsimile machine and the receiving facsimile machine, such as the Internet, there is usually not a polling of the capabilities of the receiving facsimile machine by the transmitting facsimile machine during the process of transmitting a communication. There is a communication over the Internet, for example, by way of an Internet electronic mail message, which requests the capabilities of the receiving fax machine. A response e-mail is transmitted so that the capabilities of the receiving facsimile machine are sent to the transmitting facsimile machine. The facsimile machines involved are not necessarily connected directly to the Internet but may be connected through transfer stations. The transfer stations are connected over a network such as the Internet and the electronic mail messages are transmitted between the transfer stations.

    • This disclosure relates to specifying a sender in detail when image data is attached to email and transmitted from an Internet facsimile device. An MFP (100) has an E-mail transmission mode in which email with an image is transmitted to a general email address, and an IFAX transmission mode in which email with an image is transmitted to an apparatus copying with the IFAX function. In transmitting an image, the MFP (100) authenticates the user in cooperation with an authentication server (102). When the authenticated user selects the IFAX transmission mode, an email address corresponding to the user is acquired from the authentication server (102), and set in the Sender field. The From field holds the email address of a device, similar to the prior art.
