摘要： Methods, systems, and apparatus, for an external cavity FP laser. In one aspect, an apparatus is provided that includes a FP laser diode; a Faraday rotator (FR) coupled to receive an optical output of the FP laser diode and that rotates a polarization of the optical output; an optical fiber coupled at a first end to receive the output of the FR; a WDM filter coupled to a second end of the optical fiber to receive the optical signal from the optical fiber; and a FRM coupled directly or indirectly to an output of the WDM filter, wherein an optical output of the WDM filter is partially reflected by the FRM such that the polarization of a reflected beam is rotated, and wherein the reflected optical signal then passes through the FR with its polarization being rotated by the FR before it is injected back into the FP laser diode.

摘要： Multiple panel luminaires for light-based communication (LCom) and related techniques of use are disclosed. Each luminaire panel may comprise at least one solid-state light source, where the light sources are configured to output light. The luminaire may also include at least one modulator configured to modulate the light output of the light sources to allow for emission of LCom signals. The luminaire may also include a controller configured to synchronize timing of the LCom signals. In some cases, one panel may be configured to emit an LCom signal that is the inverse or duplicate of the LCom signal emitted from another panel. Panel signal inversion may be used to maintain a relatively constant level of light output from the luminaire and/or to create a virtual fiducial to provide orientation information. Using a multiple panel luminaire to transmit data may also result in improved data transmission rates and transmission reliability.

摘要： There is provided an apparatus for generating a multi-channel array light source based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). More specifically, the apparatus has a structure in which an optical multiplexer and distributed feedback laser diode (DFB-LD) array modules are coupled. The optical multiplexer is configured with a plurality of input port columns spatially spaced apart from each other, so that high-speed electrical signal lines, matching resistors, and DFB-LDs are integrated with each input port column. Accordingly, although a conventional apparatus is used as it is, the number of channels can be increased by two or three times without any large modification of the size of an optical device, and thus it is possible to achieve low-price, large-capacity communication. Based on this, it is possible to implement a low-priced 400-Gbps optical transceiver.

摘要： A quasi-optical coupling system launches and extracts surface wave communication transmissions from a wire. At millimeter-wave frequencies, where the wavelength is small compared to the macroscopic size of the equipment, the millimeter-wave transmissions can be transported from one place to another and diverted via lenses and reflectors, much like visible light. Transmitters and receivers can be positioned near telephone and power lines and reflectors placed on or near the cables can reflect transmissions onto or off of the cables. The lenses on the transmitters are focused, and the reflectors positioned such that the reflected transmissions are guided waves on the surface of the cables. The reflectors can be polarization sensitive, where one or more of a set of guided wave modes can be reflected off the wire based on the polarization of the guided wave modes and polarization and orientation of the reflector.

The optical transmitter can include a substrate mounted on an interior surface of the housing and having a microwave waveguide coupled to it. The microwave waveguide can be configured to direct electrical signals originating outside the housing to the signal source driver. The substrate is can also be configured to limit heat transfer from the signal source driver to the optical signal source.

The waveguides may be disposed in the semiconductor layer under a determined angle relative to the mirror reflective surface. The determined angle may be equal to or greater than a total internal reflection angle corresponding to the interface, to provide substantially total internal reflection of light by the mirror. The mirror may be formed by an interface of the semiconductor layer comprising the mirror reflective surface and another medium filling the mirror, such as a dielectric.
