    • The disclosure is directed toward a Multi-Occupancy Dwelling (MOD) telephone jack for use where different telephone connections could be reconfigured without the need for a telephone technician. In the description herein, the term “jack” is used to describe a receptacle, whereas in the industry, a combination of a receptacle and a plug is sometimes called a jack. The MOD jack is similar to the regulation jack (RJ), or it could be a different connection point. The MOD jack has a plurality of selectable connecting points. The MOD jack includes a rotary dial. The rotary dial is connected to at least one connection point on a first plate and further a plurality of connection points on a second plate. The first plate is connected to a plurality of connection points. By rotating the rotary dial to a selected position, a connection may be made with one connection point, whereby a receptacle is connected to a set of lines, for example, a pair of tip and ring leads that could establish a telephone connection with a central office. In case of a T-1, VOIP or an ISDN connection, it is understood that a set of four, six, or eight wire connections could be made using the same arrangement. In a further aspect, the disclosure is directed toward a modular MOD jack to connect a plurality of devices or service connections. These could be, for example, digital multiple line key phones, PABX extensions, data transmission units, fax machines, and signaling equipment.

    • A telecommunication connector for a distribution point comprises a base part and a detachable configuration module, the configuration module being able to take a plurality of dispositions with respect to the base part, the base part having connection means to (i) a telecommunications cable from an exchange, (ii) a cable to a further distribution point, and (iii) a cable to a consumer, wherein the configuration module causes electrical connection from the exchange to the further distribution point in a first disposition but not in a second disposition. This permits the installer who is connecting a new consumer to disconnect the unnecessary part of the wire forming the relevant pair when activating the service whilst leaving intact the investment in the network. The configuration module can also contain protective devices for the line, such as three or five pin protection, over current devices and over voltage devices, or other active electronic elements. It is further preferred that in the first orientation, the configuration module causes electrical connection between the exchange and consumer to be broken.

    • A faceplate assembly for mounting to various wall, floor or ceiling mounted electrical boxes, such as a telecommunications box, that is easily assembled and disassembled, and in which the wiring device receiving modules are readily interchangeable. The faceplate assembly includes a plate for covering the box, holes in the plate aligned with holes in the box for securing the plate to the box, at least one aperture in the plate, at least two modules adapted to fit in the at least one plate aperture, and either a blank face on the module or at least one opening in the module for accessing a wiring device receptacle in the box with a wiring device. Fasteners received in the plate openings secure the plate to the box. A module is inserted in the at least one plate aperture from the front side of the plate, allowing a module to be removed and replaced with another module without having to remove the plate from the box. A module may have a blank front face, or it may have one or more openings for accessing the wiring device receptacle in the box. The openings may be oriented in a first direction having a longer horizontal side, or oriented in a second direction with a longer vertical side, as required by the wiring device receptacles housed in the box. The module may also have a sloped front face that facilitates accessing the wiring device. The quickly and easily removable and installable modules provide a versatile faceplate assembly that may be used on a wide variety of receptacle configurations.
