    • A night vision device (NVD) includes a control circuit having an acceleration-responsive switch. When the NVD is in a generally horizontal use position, the acceleration-responsive switch enables a circuit allowing voltage to be applied to an image intensifier tube of the night vision device, so that night vision is provided. On the other hand, when the device is flipped up to a stowed position allowing the user of the device unobstructed natural vision, the acceleration-responsive switch senses the changed orientation of the gravitational acceleration vector, and turns off the image intensifier tube as well as other light-emitting sources of the night vision device. The acceleration responsive switch controls operation of voltage step-up circuit, which allows the NVD to be operated with a single one and on-half volt battery cell, and which also insures when it is turned off that not only is the image intensifier tube turned off, but also that all other possible sources of light emissions from the NVD are turned off.

    • A display apparatus for displaying pictures virtually instantaneously adopts a direct-heating type cathode of an impregnated structure, and includes a cathode ray tube having a dispenser cathode wherein a cathode material is filled in pores of a porous body and a porous heater is directly connected to the cathode material. A voltage generator of the apparatus produces a first voltage for driving the heater. A video signal supply portion supplies a video signal to the cathode, while a deflector deflects horizontally and vertically an electron beam generated from the cathode to produce a raster by scanning the fluorescent surface of the cathode ray tube. A flyback transformer generates a second voltage to be supplied to the anode and one or more grids of the cathode ray tube using a horizontal deflection output signal supplied from the deflector. With the described arrangement, an electron-emitting velocity of an electron gun reaches its maximum value within about one second after power is applied. Thus, the display apparatus can be adapted to an HDTV requiring high current density electron-emitting characteristics.

    • This invention is an ultra rapid digitally controlled electronic camera. It comprises a bilamellar optical image conversion tube having a photocathode, a narrow aperture for receiving photons from the object to be studied, a pair of electron accelerating electrodes, a quadrupolar spatial focusing lens, a temporal focusing lens and means for recording the image of the aperture to a screen. The camera also has electrical supply sources for the lenses and electrodes. The invention also has a pair of prefocusing temporal electrodes connected to an adjustable voltage source, a pair of acceleration electrodes parallel to the aperture, and two deflection plates connected to adjustable voltage sources. The camera has a control unit distant from the tube to control the regulation and measurement means for the source voltages situated near the tube. Its application is for the study of very rapid light phenomena.
