    • A music piece reproducing apparatus has: a sound collecting unit collecting noise data of an ambient environment; an analyzing unit performing a frequency analysis to the noise data collected by the sound collecting unit and extracting a feature amount showing a feature of the noise data; a noise parameter database classifying the noise data every environment; and a reproducing unit reproducing music piece data which has been recorded in a recording medium and classified every category, wherein the analyzing unit classifies the noise data with reference to the noise parameter database on the basis of the extracted feature amount of the noise data, selects the previously-corresponded category of music pieces in accordance with a classification result of the noise data, and selects predetermined music piece data from music piece data classified into the selected category.

    • Processor-implemented methods and systems for polyphonic note detection are disclosed. The method includes converting a portion of a polyphonic audio signal from a time domain to a frequency domain. The method includes detecting a fundamental frequency peak in the frequency domain. The method then detects a defined number of integer-interval harmonic partials. If a defined number of integer-interval harmonic partials relative to the fundamental frequency peak are detected the fundamental frequency is recorded as a detected note. This process is repeated for each fundamental frequency until each note in the polyphonic audio signal has been detected. For example, this method allows detection of each note in a strummed guitar chord to provide feedback on the tuning of each string in a strummed chord or allows detection and feedback of the timing and pitch errors for guitar chords played along with a reference track.

    • A system and method to assist a singer or other user. An audio source is processed to extract the lead vocals from the audio signal. This vocal signal is fed to a pitch detection processor which estimates the pitch at each moment in time. A user singing into a microphone provides a user vocal signal that is also pitch detected. The pitch of the lead vocal signal and the user vocal signal are compared and any difference is provided to a pitch shifting module, which then can correct the pitch of the user vocal signal. The corrected user vocal signal may be combined with a background signal comprising a signal from the audio source without the lead vocal signal, and then provided to headphones or loudspeakers to the user and/or an audience. This system and method may be used for Karaoke performances.

    • Methods, systems, and devices are described for collaborative handling of music contributions over a network. Embodiments of the invention provide a portal, the portal being accessible over the network by a plurality of workstations and configured to provide a set of editing capabilities for editing music elements. Music contributions may be received at the portal. At least a portion of the music contributions include music elements. In certain embodiments, the music elements have been deconstructed from an audio signal or a score image. A number of collaboration requests may be received at the portal over the network. Some collaboration requests may originate from a first workstation, while other collaboration requests may originate from a second workstation. In response to at least one of the collaboration requests, at least a portion of the music elements may be edited using the editing capabilities of the portal.
