    • Provided is a sign assembly for use in conjunction with a traffic signal. The sign assembly includes an internal power source for powering a lowering mechanism, such as a motor in driven connection with a pulley, and a sign lowering mechanism such as a standard stop sign. The sign assembly further includes a control circuit in electrical communication with the internal circuitry of the traffic signal having a sensor configured to monitor the traffic signal for power loss. The control circuit is configured to lower the stop sign when a loss of power to the traffic signal is detected and raise the stop sign when power is restored to the traffic signal. The stop sign reduces accident risk by reminding drivers to always stop at a four-way traffic signal intersection when the traffic signals lose power and become inoperable.

    • An emergency traffic system is provided. The emergency traffic system may include a power source, a battery, an emergency traffic light, a light sensor, a mounting assemblage, a computer and an existing traffic light system. The emergency traffic system may be mounted on a traffic light system, whereby the light sensor may be secured to at least one traffic light thereof. The computer may receive electrical signals from the light sensor so as to learn and record the history of the traffic light patterns of the traffic light system. In the next step, the computer compares the instant traffic light pattern to the history of traffic light patterns during the operation of the traffic light system being monitored. If the instant traffic light pattern is not found in the history, then the computer transmits the on signal to the emergency traffic light. If the instant traffic pattern is found in the history then the computer continues to monitor the step comparison. If the on signal has been transmitted to the emergency traffic light, then the computer continues to look for the return of a signal from the light sensor, it then reacts to traffic light system working again, and then the computer transmits the off signal to the emergency traffic light.

    • A real-time traffic management system comprising a main light controller module configured to monitor and control functionality of one or more traffic lights, a master control unit server software application, a network operations control module, and a network watcher application program. The main light controller module communicates with one or more coordinating light controller modules, onsite personnel, and a network operations center. The main light controller uses a camera that detects instances of vehicle demand and provides live images for situational awareness. The main light controller module comprises a global positioning satellite receiver and a light sensor for monitoring ambient lighting conditions. The network watcher application program continuously scans incoming data, monitors performance of all components in the system, and issues alerts and alarms to notify personnel of events or conditions outside of established tolerances.

    • Management of traffic signal preemption control equipment. In one approach, logged preemption data is periodically read from each of a plurality of intersections having respective preemption controllers for preempting traffic signals at the intersections. The logged preemption data at an intersection describes operational states of the preemption controller and each vehicle control unit that submitted a preemption request at the intersection and data describing each individual preemption request. The logged preemption data read from the plurality of intersections are stored in a database. The database is monitored for data indicative of changes in operational status of the traffic signal preemption control equipment. In response to the data indicating a change in operational status, data descriptive of the change are output.
