摘要： A dynamic session redirector provides the ability to receive requests for network accessible storage resources and redirect them to the appropriate resources as needed while providing a single system image to the system requesting access to the resources. The redirector provides an ability to reconfigure the network storage resources in order to balance the load among the servers. By altering the association between individual storage resources and the servers responsible for them on the storage network, a more efficient and reliable system for access to the data may be provided.

摘要： A clustering disk subsystem comprising a switch holding a table which can modify a destination of a request from a host computer, wherein the switch transfers an access request to another channel according to a destination channel status such as heavy load or fault, and the channel which received the request processes the request by proxy for load balancing between internal disk controllers in a clustering disk subsystem. The subsystem has an effect in which load balancing or fail-over between channels or disk controllers can be performed without any special hardware or software in the host. As a result, good performance can be obtained even when access requests from the host computer are concentrated in a specific channel or disk controller.

摘要： A mechanism is provided for monitoring I/O activity of each device and the total I/O activity for each adapter. When there is low I/O activity for the tape subsystem, the I/O for the disk subsystems may be spread across all available adapters and paths. When I/O activity for the tape subsystem increases, the I/O activity for the disk subsystems may be reduced on the adapter processing the tape I/O, but will continue across all other adapters. If the tape subsystem begins to report errors due to I/O starvation, the disk I/O activity may be adjusted until the errors stop.

摘要： A storage subsystem that directly interfaces with a network, provides connections for routers with a conventional multi-path function, and performs access load balancing among a plurality of input/output ports. Each channel controller is assigned with a channel controller network address, and a storage device is assigned with a storage device address (different from the network addresses of the channel controllers). Upon receiving a packet addressed to the storage device address from an external network device, a pseudo storage load routing function responds by notifying the external network device that the packet has been transmitted to the storage device with the storage device address, while performing input/output processing indicated by the packet for the storage device with the storage device address.

The method includes receiving a request from at least one client for a title not resident in a storage server, where the title includes a play track having a plurality of chapters. The retrieval from a secondary storage device of play track portions proximate chapter delineation points is initiated, and bandwidth capacity and quality-of-service (QoS) parameters associated with the secondary storage device is determined. In the case of a client request to begin presentation of the title at one of the chapters, streaming of retrieved portions of the play track chapter to the client is initiated, masking latency associated with the secondary storage device is provided, and retrieval of at least unretrieved portions of the play track chapter and subsequent play track portions from the secondary storage device is initiated.

摘要： A disk array system of the type that each controller has an independent and dedicated cache. The disk array system can change control of a desired volume between desired controllers without suspending the system. When volumes are taken over between controllers, a switch-source controller de-stages data of a subject volume on the data cache to a storage subject disk to maintain the disk content reflection (coherency). Even if each controller has an independent and dedicated cache, a desired volume can be taken over between desired controllers without suspending the system. Each controller has a configuration manager which stores the controller number of a switch-destination controller to allow automatic volume take-over and automatic control by the original controller.
