摘要： The strength of lignocellulosic materials is improved by treating them with water-soluble strengthening agents containing sulfonic units, and rendering these agents water-insoluble by reacting them with compounds containing epoxide rings and quaternary ammonium groups. Thus, a substantial reduction or elimination of the bleeding of said strengthening agents from the lignocellulosic materials when touched with wet hands or contacted under humid conditions is achieved.

摘要： Aqueous alkyldiketene dispersions comprising an alkyldiketene, cationic starch having an amylopectic content of at least 95% by weight and as anionic dispersants(a) from 0.05 to 1.0% by weight of ligninsulfonic acid, condensates of naphthalenesulfonic acid and formaldehyde, sulfonated polystyrene, salts and mixtures of said polymers and (b) from 0.05 to 1.5% by weight of sulfuric monoesters of alcohols having at least 10 carbon atoms, phosphoric monoesters or diesters of alcohols having at least 10 carbon atoms, sulfuric monoesters of alkoxylated alcohols having at least 10 carbon atoms, phosphoric monoesters or diesters of alkoxylated alcohols having at least 10 carbon atoms, C.sub.12 -C.sub.30 -alkylsulfonic acids, salts and mixtures of said compoundscan be used as body size in the manufacture of paper, paperboard and cardboard and for making cellulose fibers hydrophobic.

摘要： A method for making a surface coated or impregnated paper or paperboard by applying an aqueous additive dispersion to the wet web between the press and drying sections of a conventional paper or paperboard making machine. The aqueous additive dispersion is pre-metered onto a transfer roll and is applied to the wet web at a pressure nip between the transfer roll and a back-up roll. High solids content dispersions can be applied at high web speeds without tearing the web. The use of a high solids content aqueous dispersion having a solids content substantially equal to the solids content of the wet web at the point of application permits the method to be performed without increasing the drying load and therefore at an unreduced speed. The method contemplates the use of a hydrophillic transfer roll running in a direction opposite to the web, permitting a saturant to be impregnated into the web, and has particular application to the production of containerboard treated with a lignosulfonate saturant to improve strength and surface character.
