In the downstream portion of the passageway the structure is such that the intermediate ply stock is modulated and smoothed so that the outer plies will join the intermediate ply for presenting smooth outer surfaces for the multi-ply paper web.

摘要： A headbox contains a rigid lower lip which is directed towards a dewatering surface, a wire or the like, guided over a rotating cylinder or roll, and a rigid upper lip having a rigid lip portion which, in conjunction with a portion or section of the dewatering surface neighboring the lower lip downstream with respect to the flow of the stock suspension, delimits a sheet forming chamber or space. The lip portion is provided at the region of the sheet forming chamber with step or groove-like depressions or recesses extending transversely with respect to the direction of flow of the stock or fiber suspension. These recesses serve to form recirculation turbulence which supports the marginal flow of the stock suspension. With this arrangement the effect of the wall friction upon the flow velocity is practically eliminated, so that with a flow velocity of the stock suspension which is adjusted in accordance with the travel speed of the dewatering surface, there is ensured for a uniform forming of the suspended fibers of the stock suspension in the lengthwise and transverse direction of the paper which is to be fabricated.

摘要： A papermaking headbox with adjustable rigid slice lips especially adapted to permit deflection of the slice lips on a headbox utilized with a twin wire or crescent forming papermaking machine. The headbox comprises elongated slice lips extending into the forming zone located between converging papermaking wires or fabrics, the slice lips being substantially rigid in construction and affixed at their rearmost ends to headbox support members. One or both of the slice lips may be provided with a full width machined channel into which the actuating means in the form of relatively inflexible bellows are positioned. These metal bellows are in turn connected to a fluid supply means which cause a small axial movement only. The fluid supply means is adapted to supply a fluid under pressure of at least 1,000 pounds per square inch to the bellows, such that upon actuation of the bellows, the slice lip will be deformed, thereby restricting the slice opening. The full width channel provides a uniform flexure point for the adjustable slice lip.

摘要： An improved process to produce a novel tissue which becomes ply-separable during the papermaking process. In a first embodiment of the invention a two-layered stratified web is formed, having a first layer comprised of a relatively low consistency slurry of long papermaking fibers and a second layer comprised of a high consistency slurry of relatively short papermaking fibers. In a second embodiment of the invention, a stratified web having three layers is formed, comprised of well-bonded layers separated by an interior barrier layer. These improved tissue products need not be creped from a creping roll with a doctor blade in order to exhibit ply-separability, and they may be creped in a single step to form a finished product which is creped all the way through.

摘要： A paper machine has a headbox provided with a slice through which a pulp suspension discharges from the headbox, this slice being defined in part by an upper lip frame. The pulp suspension flows to the slice from a distribution header and a turbulence passage assembly which receives the pulp stock from the distribution header and continues the flow thereof toward the slice. An air tank is provided for containing air under pressure to act on the flowing pulp stock so as to damp pressure fluctuations in the pulp suspension flow, and this air tank is connected in part to the upper lip frame of the slice so that the pressure in the air tank will act on the pulp suspension in the immediate vicinity of the slice.
