摘要： A system and method of automatically controlling exterior vehicle lights includes an image sensor and a controller to generate control signals. The control signals are derived based on information obtained from the image sensor as well as other detected parameters pertaining to the detected light source(s), the vehicle having the inventive control system, and the ambient environment. The control circuit may simply turn certain exterior lights on or off, or change the brightness, aim, focus, etc. to produce various beam patterns that maximize the illuminated area in front of the vehicle without causing excessive glare in the eyes of other drivers.

摘要： An automatic vehicle headlight beam direction adjustment system, able to learn early of errors in front road information from a navigation system and eliminate continued adjustment of the beam directions of headlights in a mistaken direction, which makes the beam directions of the left and right headlights swivel for adjustment in the left-right directions parallel to a horizontal direction based on an estimated swivel control angle calculated in accordance with a speed and front road information, determines that there is an error in the estimated swivel control angle and cancels swivel advance control when the beam directions are not the direction of advance of the vehicle regardless of the vehicle running straight after the swivel advance control has continued for a predetermined time after operation of the steering wheel, and can therefore prevent swivel advance control from continuing over a predetermined time due to error of the front road information and quickly restore advance visibility of the driver.

A horizontal cut-off line forming area 20a1 of a reflector 20 is formed with a plurality of reflection elements 20s1a and 20s1b and the like. Those elements are formed extending from the upper end to the lower end and slanting, at an angle of 5°, downward to the optical axis Ax1 with respect to the vertical direction. As a result, when the vehicle body rolls to the oncoming lane side, the reflection elements 20s1a and 20s1b and the like are substantially orthogonal to a light-dark borderline L1 formed by an inner shade 18c of the light source bulb, to thereby sharpen the horizontal cut-off line.

On the other hand, a navigation processor determines reliabilities of current position detection, and a vehicle position based on road data, and determines a reliability of the road shape and a reliability of the traveling region. A base illuminated area and a medium glare are selected when the reliability of the traveling region is low, an illuminated area according to the traveling region is selected and the glare quantity is decreased when the reliability is medium, and an illuminated area and a glare quantity according to the traveling region are selected when the reliability is high. A light distribution angle &thgr; hs according to a steering angle is selected when the reliability of the road shape is low, and a light distribution angle &thgr; hn for illuminating a vehicle position after T seconds is selected when the reliability is high.
