    • A method of maintaining a printhead in an operable condition is provided. The method comprises the steps of: (i) providing a printhead maintenance station comprising a capper having a constriction member, a vacuum system in fluid communication with the capper, an air inlet valve in fluid communication with the capper, and an engagement; (ii) moving the capper into a first position such that the capper is sealingly engaged around the printhead and the constriction member is spaced apart from the face, thereby defining a blast channel; (iii) generating a vacuum over the face using the vacuum system, thereby purging ink from printhead nozzles onto the face; and (iv) opening the air inlet valve, thereby blasting air through the blast channel and removing ink from the face.

    • A printer having a pagewidth printhead assembly and a capping mechanism. The printhead assembly has a single pagewidth printhead and ink ejection nozzles located along the printhead for delivering ink onto print media as it is transported past the printhead. The capping mechanism has a capping member having a length corresponding substantially to that of the printhead and located in a non-capping first position spaced-apart from the printhead, a first actuating mechanism arranged to move the printhead in an arcuate first direction from a first position to a second position and a third position, and a second actuating mechanism arranged to move the capping member in an arcuate second direction opposite to that of the first direction to effect nozzle capping engagement of the printhead when the printhead is in the second position and to permit purging of the nozzles when the printhead is in the third position.

    • The invention relates to a printer assembly for a pagewidth printer. The printer includes a casing that defines a print media path. Two pagewidth printheads are mounted on opposite sides of a print media path defined by a gap in said casing. Capping members are located adjacent respective printheads. Each capping member is inclined at a predetermined angle to a direction of travel of print media through said path. An actuating mechanism is configured to turn the printheads in an arcuate manner relative to the media path to the predetermined angle, and to move each capping member rectilinearly towards the respective printhead to cap nozzle arrangements located on a printing zone of such a printhead.

    • An inkjet recording device includes a recording head and a cap placed in tight contact with a nozzle forming surface for defining a sealed space. A head moving mechanism moves the recording head along a direction in which the nozzle forming surface is extended, toward or separately from a contact position at which the cap is placed in tight contact with the recording head. A cap moving mechanism moves the cap toward or separately from the contact position at which the cap is placed in tight contact with the nozzle forming surface. A cap holding mechanism including a slider holds the cap such that the cap is allowed to slide along a moving direction of the recording head and positions the cap at the contact position.
