    • A method of manufacturing a screen device for permanent placement of a screen within a plastic structure. The method of manufacturing a screen device includes providing a mold comprised of an upper mold and a lower mold defining a mold cavity, positioning plastic within the mold cavity, positioning a screen upon a lower mold, securing the upper mold to the lower mold with the screen positioned within, performing rotational molding upon the mold, and removing the finished product from the mold. The finished product is comprised of a perimeter structure having an opening within with the screen completely enclosing the opening. The outer perimeter of the screen is molded directly into the inner wall of the finished product to prevent objects from passing about the outside portion of the screen.

    • The present invention provides novel structures for spin weld assemblies and a method for forming same. The spin weld assemblies are formed by attaching a fastener to a plastic insert which is then attached to a plastic workpiece. The fastener can take the form of many different structures, preferably a stud or a nut. The fastener is formed with a drive for driving the fastener into a bore of the plastic insert having first and second ends. Self-tapping threads on the fastener engage the fastener with the plastic insert when the fastener is driven into the bore of the insert. The insert, having the fastener threadedly engaged thereto, is then rotated and generally axially displaced into an opening of the plastic workpiece, thereby spin welding the insert to the workpiece. The first end of the insert provides proper alignment for the insert to be spin welded into the opening as the diameter of the first end is smaller than that of the opening. The second end of the insert provides the intimate engaging contact between the insert and a wall that defines the opening when the insert is spin welded into the opening as the diameter of the second end is larger than the diameter of the opening.

    • A method is described for making a reinforcing wire frame for embedding in a moulded polymer support frame over which woven wire cloth is to be stretched and secured to form a sifting screen. The method involves locating lengths of cut wire substantially equally spaced apart in a jig to form a first array. A second array of lengths of cut wire is located over the first array with the lengths of wire in the second array being substantially at right angles to those of the first array. The lengths of wire in the first and second arrays are resistance welded at points of mutual intersection so as to form a first substantially rectilinear matrix. Lengths of cut wire are located in a jig to form a third array, in which the lengths are also substantially equally spaced apart, and a fourth array of lengths of cut wire is arranged over the third array with the lengths of the fourth array substantially at right angles to the lengths of wire of the third array, and the wires of the third and fourth arrays are also resistance welded at points of mutual intersection to form a second substantially rectilinear matrix. Protruding lengths of wire on at least two sides of the four sides of one of the rectilinear matrices are bent using a press so as to bend each protruding length first in a generally upward sense and then at a point nearer its end in a generally downward sense so that an end region of each protruding length extends parallel to a plane of the matrix but is displaced therefrom. Thereafter the displaced ends of the protruding lengths of wire of one matrix are resistance welded to protruding lengths of wire of the other matrix, to form the frame.

    • apparatus for repairing or refurbishing a filter screen (of the type defined in the specification) is described. The apparatus comprises a tray for accommodating a filter screen frame from which worn wirecloth has been stripped. Wirecloth stretching means surrounds the tray which includes attachment means for securing to edges of a sheet of wirecloth laid over an upper surface of the frame in the tray. Tensioning means is provided for exerting tension on the wirecloth in at least two mutually different directions so as to stretch it over the frame, and heating means is provided for heating the frame to soften the uppermost edges of a matrix of struts and periphery of the frame. Forcing means serves to force the wirecloth into the softened edges such that after cooling, the wirecloth remains bonded to the frame. Thereafter the wirecloth can be trimmed back to the edges of the frame. A second attaching means and tensioning is provided to enable at least a second sheet of wirecloth to be secured over the first wirecloth for bonding to the frame, at the same time as the first wirecloth is bonded to the frame. Additional means is provided for applying plastics material along each of the surfaces to which the new wirecloth is to be attached, prior to, or after, wirecloth has been stretched over the support frame, so as to increase the amount of plastics material available to bond the wirecloth to the frame.
