    • A swimmer's starting platform assembly and method includes a cylindrical anchor/post mating system having a keyed angular positioning device. Preferably, a starting platform has a cylindrical support post sized for mating engagement within a cylindrical bore of an anchor. The cylindrical support post has a mating key element configured to mate with an anchor key element when the cylindrical support post is inserted into the cylindrical bore to maintain a fixed angular orientation between the cylindrical support post and the cylindrical bore so that the starting platform is fixed with a desired orientation relative to the anchor.

    • A top for a starting platform at one end of a swimming pool has an upper surface, which is adapted to support both feet of a swimmer in a starting position, and a lower surface, at which the top is mountable so that the upper surface slants downwardly and frontwardly. Ribs on the upper surface slant downwardly and laterally and channels between the ribs slant similarly so as to drain water from the upper surface. Along each lateral edge, an upper trough and a lower trough facilitate grasping by one hand of such a swimmer. The upper trough receives water drained by some of the channels. The front edge is connected to each lateral edge by a unitary grip, which a swimmer in a different position can grasp with one hand.

    • A diving system for launching a person into a swimming pool or the like that is particularly well suited for use in a limited space which normally precludes the use of a conventional board. The system employs a relatively short board pivotally secured to a base member and having two arcuate shaped spring members that are anchored at one end in the base and which are cojoined at the opposite end by a crossbar passing under the board. The crossbar is arranged to ride in contact with the working surface of a slide affixed to the board so that rearward movement of the crossbar is promoted when the board is deflected under a relatively light load and is resisted when the board is deflected under a relatively heavy load. The slide includes a generally concave shaped working surface for receiving the crossbar and, automatically changes the fulcrum ratio of the system to present a more flexible board to a lighter or less active diver and a stiffer board to a heavier or more active diver. The slide extends generally longitudinally the board.

    • This invention provides a cantilever stand for diving boards that is constructed entirely of fiberglass materials and in a rigid, one-piece configuration in which all mounting hardware is not only hidden from view to make for a more pleasant appearance but also is protected from the corrosive aspects of the elements. The instant stand also is provided with means for anchoring a diving board at the butt end with an integrally constructed fulcrum at the other end for providing the necessary and proper support at the correct fulcrum point to assure the best results in both performance, i.e. safe performance, and long life. Means are also provided for mounting safety handrails if desired.

    • A metal springboard particularly adapted for use in diving into swimming pools. The springboard is fabricated of aluminum or a similar metal, and is designed so that it can be continuously extruded. The cross-sectional shape of the preferred springboard is composed of a plurality of hollow sections, preferably inverted triangles with a strengthening member attached to the apex of each triangle. The use of this particular shape provides a board which is light in weight, resistant to torsional forces over the entire length of the board, and which has an extended service life due to the elimination of stress concentration and corrosion generating areas. The use of constant-area hollow tubes in conjunction with strengthening members permits the deflection curve of this board to be finely tailored for any chosen application.
