    • A photographic camera has a camera body, an interchangeable lens assembly mounted on the camera body, and an automatic exposure control mechanism located in the camera body. The mechanism responds to a first binary signal representative of a maximum lens aperture value in binary code and a second binary signal representative of a minimum lens aperture value in binary code. The first signal has a given number of binary bits. The second signal is generated in the lens assembly. A third signal representative of the arithmetic difference between the first and second signals is also generated in the lens assembly. The third signal has a number of binary bits fewer than the given number. The second and third signals generated in the lens assembly are transmitted to the camera body. In the camera body, the second signal is applied to the mechanism and the transmitted second and third signals are arithmetically added to derive the first signal, which is applied to the mechanism.

    • A device for controlling a camera according to whether or not a flashgun is mounted on the camera and whether or not the flashgun is charged. The camera operation may be an electrically controlling an automatic shutter operation or a manual shutter operation. An input terminal transmits a charge signal of the flashgun and a detection switch determines whether or not the flashgun is mounted on the camera. In a first state in which a flashgun with a charge signal terminal is mounted on the camera but the flashgun is not charged yet, the detection switch is turned on or off. A voltage lower than a predetermined value is applied to the input terminal, and an ordinary automatic shutter control or an ordinary manual shutter control is obtained according to information provided by the detection switch and information provided by the input terminal. In a second state in which the flashgun mounted on the camera has been charged, the detection switch is turned on or off, a voltage higher than said predetermined value is applied to the input terminal, and a flash synchronization shutter control is obtained according to information provided by the detection switch and information provided by the input terminal. In a third state in which a flashgun having no charge signal terminal is mounted on the camera, the detection switch is merely turned on or off, the input terminal is in open state, and the X shutter control is obtained according only to information provided by the detection switch.

    • In a camera, a numerical indication of the shutter speed is displayed thru the viewfinder. Numerals corresponding to the several shutter speeds are arranged to be illuminated, and therefore visible, by light emitting diodes associated therewith. The array of light emitting diodes have their cathode and anode terminals coupled together in groups arranged to reduce the total number of external connections to the diode array. The shutter speed is converted to a digital value which is applied to a decoder. The decoder energizes the external terminals of the diode array to selectively energize only one diode, corresponding to the shutter speed.

    • A digital exposure time indicating system for a camera includes a light meter whose analog output is proportional to exposure time as a function of preset film sensitivity and aperture opening values, and the measured brightness level. The meter output is fed to a comparator, together with an analog signal from a D/A converter coupled to a counter which accumulates the pulses generated by an oscillator. When the converter output reaches the meter output the comparator signal, acting through a logic circuit, causes the counter signals to be set into a latch, whose outputs are fed through a B/D converter to an LED display.The latching is performed a half cycle after a comparison, whereby transients are allowed to settle out. Provision is also made for over scale and under scale indications when the meter output is outside of the normal comparison range, and a gate circuit causes the LEDs to flicker when the battery is low.
