摘要： A hierarchical processing apparatus includes a data input unit for time-sequentially inputting pattern data in a particular hierarchical level, a calculation parameter control data memory for storing calculation parameter control data, a local area recognition module for detecting a particular feature from pattern data, using the calculation parameter control data, and an intermediate result storage module for storing an intermediate result output from the local area recognition module. Depending on the hierarchical level of processing, a flow of data is controlled such that an input acquired via the data input unit or an intermediate result fed back from the intermediate result storage module and calculation parameter control data read from the calculation parameter control data memory are supplied to the local area recognition module. The hierarchical processing apparatus can perform various kinds of complicated calculations using a simple small-scale circuit with low power consumption.

摘要： A local synchronization type parallel pulse signal processing circuit has a plurality of neurons connected to each other based on a predetermined rule and disposed in parallel, executing a predetermined arithmetic process with respect to input signals and outputting, a phase synchronization signal generation circuit outputting phase synchronization signals to the predetermined vicinal neurons, and a synchronization detection portion detecting synchronization within an allowable phase difference between the outputs of the predetermined vicinal neurons. The phase synchronization signal generation circuit functions also as a neuron executing the predetermined arithmetic process and outputting in accordance with a result of the synchronization detection by the synchronization detection portion. With this architecture, the synchronization circuit operating stably without any contradiction in a way that brings neither an increase in circuit scale nor an increase in consumption of electric power, is actualized.

摘要： In an image conversion method, a value which reflects the mutual relationship between the classes of pixel patterns each formed from a pixel classified as one of a plurality of classes and peripheral pixels is set as a converted value corresponding to each of the plurality of classes, a pixel of interest is sequentially selected from the input image, and a pixel pattern formed from the selected pixel of interest and a predetermined number of pixels around it is classified as one of the plurality of classes in accordance with a neighboring pattern obtained based on the relationship between the value of the pixel of interest and the values of peripheral pixels located at predetermined relative positions with respect to the pixel of interest. The value of the pixel of interest is converted into a converted value set for a class to which the pixel of interest has been classified.

摘要： An output value of neuron within an objective layer of a hierarchical neural network is computed. The data of the output value of neuron is stored in a memory only if the output value of neuron is greater than or equal to a predetermined value by referring to the computed output value of neuron within the objective layer. When the data of the output value of neuron on a former layer of objective layer is read from the memory, the data having a predetermined value is read, instead of the data of the output value of neuron not stored in the memory.
