    • A control mechanism having a dial and cooperating structure for selectively locking the dial in any one of a plurality of angularly related positions. The locking mechanism is configured to provide a force or manipulating characteristic precluding operation thereof by accident or by young children, such as infants, thereby effectively precluding undesired resetting of the associated control mechanism. The locking structure is formed integrally with the respective relatively movable parts of the mechanism, including the structure for providing the biasing of the locking mechanism to the locking disposition. The locking mechanism is resiliently biased and includes a graspable portion which when grasped to effect movement of the control overcomes the resilient biasing. The biasing structure automatically relocks the dial upon release of the graspable portion.

    • The present invention provides a method and a reagent for detecting a digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer patient by analyzing genes with expression levels (in peripheral blood) that vary in association with digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer cases, compared with normal healthy subjects. Specifically, the method for detecting a digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer patient based on expression profiles comprises obtaining the expression profile of at least one gene selected from the group consisting of probes corresponding to genes with expression levels (in peripheral blood) that vary in digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and biliary tract cancer cases, compared with normal healthy subjects. The reagent for detecting digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer contains nucleotides or partial sequences thereof consisting of the nucleotide sequence of at least one gene selected from the group consisting of probes with expression levels that vary in digestive organ cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer, or nucleotides containing sequences complementary thereto.

    • A digital scale is provided that switches a measuring interval according to the amount of variation of sampled data, and computes a weight. Embodiments include a scale with pre-stored scale intervals set at multiple levels, and allowable ranges of fluctuation that correspond to the scale intervals. The scale acquires digital data of a load continuously, and computes a predetermined number, or a fluctuation range in a predetermined time, of the acquired digital data. The scale then determines the degree of variation of the digital data by comparing the computed fluctuation range with the allowable range of fluctuation stored for each scale interval, and switches the scale interval based on the determined degree of variation, thereby allowing the scale to measure and compute the weight of the load even if the fluctuation is large.
