    • A recording apparatus for facilitating data erasure operations involving data recorded on a recording medium. Each piece of data recorded on the recording medium may be examined to determine whether it is rerecordable by determining whether the data is already stored in another storage medium. When data erasure is requested, erasure processing may be controlled in accordance with the result of the determination. For example, original data based on data captured by a microphone or a camera (namely, non-rerecordable data) may not be erased (without specific approval by the user). Conversely, rerecordable data copied from another recording medium such as a CD may be erased.

    • A reproducing apparatus for a recording medium such as an optical disk, includes a head, a memory, and a controller. The head is relatively moved with respect to the recording medium so as to read audio data recorded on the recording medium. The memory temporarily stores the audio data read from the recording medium. The controller controls to write the audio data into the memory and to read the audio data stored in the memory. The controller controls to write the audio data into the memory and to read the audio data therefrom in such a manner that a writing speed of the audio data read by the head becomes higher than a reading speed of the audio data stored in the memory. When a highspeed reproducing operation condition is set, the controller intermittently reads the data from a position separated from a preselected address by using the audio data previously stored in the memory, so that a highspeed reproducing operation process is executed. Also, after the highspeed reproducing operation process based on the audio data previously stored in the memory has been complete, the controller relatively transports the head at a high speed with respect to the recording medium, whereby the highspeed reproducing operation process for the audio data , which is read out from the recording medium to be written into the memory is carried out.

    • A reproducing apparatus of a recording medium, which has address data recorded thereon, a set of data discretely recorded in a plurality of small recording areas thereon, and information indicative of connective relationships between the small recording areas recorded thereon. The reproducing apparatus includes a readout device, a memory, and a controller. The readout device reads data and address data recorded on the recording medium. The memory stores the information indicative of connective relationships between the small recording areas in the data read by the readout device. The controller controls the readout device in high-speed reproduction to repeatedly make an access in accordance with the information stored in the memory and read the data stored in the small recording areas in units of a predetermined data amount. The controller further executes control, when the readout device has moved to a position outside a preceding small recording area after an access, so that the read means will access a subsequent small recording area in a connective relationship with the preceding small recording area. When the address corresponding to the position in the subsequent small recording area, reached after this accessing operation is within a predetermined range of the start address of the subsequent small recording area, then the readout device reads data from the recording medium starting at the position reached.
