    • The disclosure relates to a method of resource allocation for supporting communications with a wireless device is provided. The method is performed in a network element of a wireless communication network. The method comprises differentiating (2710) between synchronous network functions and asynchronous network functions. The synchronous and asynchronous network functions are associated with the provision of communication services to the wireless device. The synchronous network functions have requirements on processing timing which are strictly dependent on timing of a radio link used for communicating with the wireless device. The asynchronous network functions have requirements on processing timing not strictly dependent on the timing of the radio link. The method also comprises allocating (2720) resources of the wireless communication network for the instantiation of a first network function based on whether the first network function is synchronous or asynchronous.

    • There is provided a method of authenticating a public land mobile network (PLMN) to a mobile station (MS). The PLMN provides a circuit switched access network to the MS, and the MS and a trusted service, TS, have established a security context. The initiation of a voice call or initiation of sending or receiving of a pushed message by the MS (S10.1) is detected, and the TS generates a response authentication token using a session identifier and the security context (S10.7). The TS sends a response comprising the response authentication token to the MS such that the response is delivered to the MS over a signalling channel of the PLMN using a mobile subscriber integrated services digital network-number (MSISDN) associated with the subscriber or subscription to direct the message (S10.9). The MS authenticates the response using the response authentication token, the security context, and the session identifier (S10.12) in order to authenticate the PLMN.

    • A method for encrypting radio resource control (RRC) messages exchanged between a wireless communication device and a node in a wireless communication system includes separating sequence number rollover events from mobility events while encrypting radio resource control (RRC) messages for exchange within a wireless communication system. According to the method, the sequence number rollover events and mobility events are separated by utilizing a state transition counter, a handover counter, and an overflow counter such that, when the state counter is incremented due to occurrences of a first group of events, the handover counter and the overflow counter are re-set to zero and, when the handover counter is incremented due to occurrences of a second group of events the overflow counter is re-set to zero. The method further includes providing one or more outputs from the state transition counter, the handover counter, and the third overflow counter as one or more inputs to a crypto algorithm for encrypting RRC messages.
