    • Provided are a 2D (2-dimensional)/3D (3-dimensional) display apparatus using a scanning backlight and a method of controlling the same. The apparatus sequentially includes a backlight which is capable of scanning and irradiating polarized light, a retarder which transmits light emitted from the backlight as phase-maintained light and phase-delayed light, a lenticular array which transmits light from the retarder as directional light, and a display panel which displays an inputted image and which is illuminated by light being transmitted through the lenticular array. The backlight includes a plurality of light guide plates which are independently disposed and arranged in parallel with one another, a plurality of light sources which are provided for the respective light guide plates and emit light, and a plurality of polarization filters which are arranged in front of the respective light guide plates. The scanning frequency of the backlight is synchronized with the input frequency of the input frames so that an illumination function and a scanning function are simultaneously performed using one backlight, a 2D image and a 3D image are efficiently displayed and crosstalk is reduced.

    • Provided are an apparatus and method for processing a three-dimensional (3D) video signal which corrects first and second video signals to prevent a reduction in a 3D effect and a disparity estimation error due to a difference between the first and second video signals. The method includes: a video signal detection unit detecting a difference between respective characteristics of received first and second video signals; and a video signal correction unit correcting the first video signal or the second video signal to equalize the characteristics of the first and second video signals. When the apparatus and the method are used, a reduction in the 3D effect and the disparity estimation error due to the difference between the first and second video signals can be prevented.

    • A high resolution autostereoscopic display includes: a backlight; a display panel forming an image using the backlight light; a viewing zone separator separating viewing zones of right and left eye images of the display panel; a polarizer polarizing the light from the display panel into first polarized light; a polarization switch converting the first polarized light into second polarized light that is polarized in a different direction; and a birefringent plate including a refractive index that varies consistent with the polarization of incident light. Images corresponding to odd and even numbered column fields are formed with the first and second polarized light, time-sequentially. The birefringent plate shifts the second polarized light with respect to the first. A three-dimensional image with the full resolution of the display panel is formed by images corresponding to an odd-numbered and even-numbered column field with the first and shifted second polarized light, respectively.

    • A 3D display device and method using a hybrid position-tracking system is provided, along with a method for displaying the 3D image. The 3D display device includes a main body, a display, a camera, a first calculation part, a gyroscope, a second calculation part, and a Kalman filter. The display provides a 3D image and the first calculation part calculates a relative posture change of the display with respect to a viewing position on the basis of the image photographed by the camera. The gyroscope is mounted in the main body to sense a change in an angular velocity of the display. The second calculation part calculates a relative posture change of the display and the Kalman filter receives the calculation results obtained by the first and second calculation parts to calculate a corrected-posture-change amount of the display.
