    • Technologies are generally described for quiet period management in secondary opportunistic networks. Access Points (APs) in close proximity may form an ad hoc network (e.g., IEEE 802.11af) and instead of sensing and detecting idle channels in TV white spaces, listen to the broadcast messages from a co-existence manager, which broadcasts periodic intraframe sensing (IRFS) and interframe sensing (IFS) information in Medium Access Control (MAC) packets. The APs may extract information regarding the operating channels of the active cognitive base stations and their scheduled IRFS and IFSs on these channels. According to one scheme, short IRFS intervals over active channels may be allocated in a dedicated manner using a unique access request packet (ARP) by emergency network APs. According to another scheme, contention-based access may be provided to longer IFS intervals on multiple channels.

    • The exemplary embodiments provide at least a method of receiving, by a node of a wireless communication network, more than one indication of data required to be sent from devices in the network, determining that provisioning resources to send the data in response to each of the more than one indication exceeds at least one threshold, and based on the determining, sending a probe message including a priority constraint to the devices. Further, receiving, at a device of a wireless communication network, a probe message from a network node of the network, the probe message identifying a priority constraint, sending, by the device, an acknowledgement to the probe message, the acknowledgment indicating that the device has data to send which meets or exceeds the priority constraint identified in the probe message, and in response to the acknowledgment, receiving from the network node a resource allocation to send the data.

An apparatus of a high-efficiency wireless local-area network (HEW) master station is disclosed. The apparatus includes transceiver circuitry and processing circuitry which may be configured to generate a trigger frame for uplink random access (TF-R), and transmit the TF-R. The transceiver circuitry and processing circuitry may be further configured to receive one or more responses in accordance with orthogonal frequency division multiple-access (OFDMA) to the trigger frame from one or more pre-association stations where the responses comprise pre-association identifiers corresponding to the one or more pre-association stations. Moreover, the transceiver circuitry and processing circuitry may be further configured to generate one or more acknowledgements to the one or more pre-association stations, and transmit the acknowledgements in accordance with OFDMA to the one or more pre-association stations.
