    • A method is provided for preparing one or more print jobs for finishing. The method includes dividing a portion of the one or more print jobs into a first set of pages corresponding with a first print output stack having one stack height and a second set of pages corresponding with a second print output stack having another stack height. A printing instruction is provided for causing at least one of the first and second sets of pages to be printed in a multiple up format when either one of the output stack heights is greater than a selected output stack height, or when the sum of the stack heights is greater than the selected output stack height. The printing instruction is used, pursuant to printing the first and second sets of pages with the printing instruction, for (1) causing the at least one of the first print output stack and the second print output stack to be printed in multiple-up format, and (2) preventing either one of the print output stack heights from exceeding the selected output height.

    • A system is provided for compiling a multi-part print job. The system is adapted to receive a first print job part at a first print system gateway, and responsive to determining that the first print job part is part of the multi-part job, the first print job segment in memory. A second print job segment is received at a second print system gateway and responsive to determining that the second print job part is part of the multi-part job, the second print job segment in memory. When a selected condition is met, both the first and second print job segments are released from memory for processing as the multi-part print job with an electronic document processing system.

One or more primary color bars are associated with an electronic document in response to at least one input by a user, wherein the primary color bar(s) is based on a plurality of input color spaces utilized by the electronic document. Additionally, a dynamic color bar can be automatically configured that includes a plurality of spot colors associated with the electronic document, wherein the dynamic color bar permits the user to determine all spot colors defined for the electronic document. The primary color bar(s) permits a single set of rules for color bar content and placement to be governed by the primary color bar, thereby enhancing the use of color bars in color rendering applications.

    • A method of automatically placing N-up images for imposition on media sheet for printing in which, for a user selected value of N, the co-ordinates of the sheet cells are determined and stored; and, the co-ordinates of the media, trim and bleed boxes of each of the images is determined and stored. The user selects, from a menu, a desired set of alignment rules and the system then compares the location of the appropriate bleed, trim or media box with the sheet cell boundaries and shifts the images and automatically locates the selected box on the sheet cell for the desired placement. The method is particularly useful for eliminating the template making in large print jobs for roll fed presses.

    • A method and system for applying one or more variable finishing parameters to a rendering job associated with VI transactional printing process. A set of rules can be specified by a user for determining the finishing attributes for the rendering job based on characteristics of the job being rendered. The rendering job can be received for execution and the discrete VI records associated with the rendering job can be discerned. The variable finishing parameters can be applied to the rendering job based on the properties required to determine a correct finishing for a given record, a job ticket resolution, and a post RIP job ticket resolution. The dynamically selected finishing attributes can be applied to the entire document and/or individual records associated with the VI data stream.

    • The page descriptions in a document description describe individual document pages. Some of those pages require special processing. Special processing is accomplished by applying subtasks to page descriptions. The subtasks are associated with subset criteria. A subtask is applied to a page description if and only if the page description meets a subset criterion associated with that subtask. In essence, subtasks are prepress operations applied to and limited to the scope of individual page descriptions with the document description. As such, a modified prepress module is ideal for subtask application. In general, page descriptions are evaluated against the subset criteria and the subtasks applied before the more generalized prepress processing converts the document description into a print ready document description.
