    • A sheet guide apparatus including a sheet tray in which a sheet is placed and a side guide having an abutting portion that abuts the sheet placed in the sheet tray. The sheet tray includes a groove formed along a direction perpendicular to an abutting surface of the abutting portion against the sheet. The side guide includes a sliding portion having slidable portions slidable on side walls of the groove, and is capable of moving along a groove direction when the sliding portion is slid on the side walls. The groove includes at least one first groove area and at least one second groove area. The second groove area has a groove width smaller than a groove width of the first groove area and allows the slidable portions of the sliding portion to be slid in the second groove area.

    • A sheet tray device including: (a) a first tray accommodating a first size sheet to be moved toward an image processor portion and (b) a second tray accommodating a second size sheet to be moved toward the image processor portion. The second tray is disposed above the first tray, and receives the first or second size sheet having been moved back from the image processor portion. The second tray has (b-i) a rear guide to be in contact with a rear end of the accommodated second size sheet and (ii) a pair of side guides to be in contact with respective side ends of the accommodated second size sheet. The side guides have respective upper ends at which the first or second size sheet having been moved back from the image processor portion is received. At least one of the side guides has a height that is not smaller than a height of the rear guide. Also disclosed is an image forming apparatus including the sheet tray device.

    • In an image-recording device, a feeding roller feeds recording media one at a time from a media-accommodating unit along a conveying path. A pair of registration rollers is disposed on the conveying path and conveys the recording medium fed by the feeding roller to an image-recording region. The registration rollers include a drive roller. A carriage reciprocates in the image-recoding region in a direction intersecting a conveying direction in which the recording medium is conveyed. A recording head is mounted on the carriage. A drive transmission switching unit is disposed outside the image-recording region on one end with respect to the reciprocating direction of the carriage and switches a combination of rotating and halted states of the drive roller in the registration rollers and the feeding roller between a continuous feeding mode and an intermittent feeding mode. A controlling unit activates the drive transmission switching unit by moving the carriage to selectively switch between the continuous feeding mode and the intermittent feeding mode.

A large radius portion 10a of a sheet supply roller 10 is gradually abraded in association with passage of operation time. Protrusions 12a of an idle roller 12 initially contact a rotational shaft 14 without forming any play between the protrusions 12a and the rotational shaft 14. However, friction force generated between the tips of the protrusions 12 and the rotational shaft 14 wears down the protrusions 12a. As a result, a difference between the radius of the large radius portion 10a and the radius of the idle roller 12 will be hardly decreased even after a cumulative operation time. Therefore, even after the abrasion progresses, sheet supply operations will be operated properly.

    • A sheet feeder provided in an image forming device and includes a sheet feed roller, a pair of collars provided at both ends of the sheet feed roller and rotatable independent of the sheet feed roller, and a separation pad provided in confronting relation to the sheet feed roller and the pair of collars. The sheet feed roller has a cylindrical roller having a diameter smaller than that of the collar and a roller shaft. An irregular diameter sleeve including first and second radius portions is mounted on the roller shaft, and the collar is loosely rotatable on the irregular diameter sleeve. The first radius portion has a first radius greater than a second radius of the second radius portion. When the first radius portion is angularly rotated to a position in confrontation with the separation pad, a distance between an axis of the roller shaft and the lower end of the collar is greater than the radius of the feed roller. When the second radius portion is angularly rotated to the position in confrontation with the separation pad, the lower end of the collar can be moved upwardly, so that the sheet feed roller can perform sheet nipping relative to the separation pad.
