    • An image forming apparatus having at least: an image carrying member for carrying an electrostatic latent image, the image carrying member having a photosensitive layer on a conductive substrate; a developer for developing the electrostatic latent image carrying member on the image carrying member; a developer carrying member for carrying the developer and conveying it to a development area; a control member making contact with the developer carrying member for controlling the coating amount of the developer; and a cleaning member for cleaning the surface of the photosensitive layer of the image carrying member by making contact with the surface of the image carrying member with a contact pressure of 0.15N (15 gf) to 0.89N (90 gf). The photosensitive layer contains at least one kind of polycarbonate resin (I) having a viscosity average molecular weight of 1.5×104 or less and at least one kind of polycarbonate resin (II) having a viscosity average molecular weight of more than 1.5×104, the polycarbonate resin (I) is contained in 30% by mass to 95% by mass based on the total content of the resins (I) and (II). The developer has a toner containing toner particles and external additives, and the toner contains (a) 0.1% by mass to 5.0% by mass of a first fine powder with a number average particle size of 0.005 &mgr;m to 3.00 &mgr;m, and (b) 0.02% by mass to 2.00% by mass of an inorganic second fine powder containing 25% by mass to 90% by mass of a lubricant, as external additives.

    • An image forming apparatus for detecting the useful life of an image bearing member includes an image bearing member; a charging member contactable to the image bearing member for charging the image bearing member, the charging member being supplied with a voltage. The image forming apparatus also includes a discharging member for electrically discharging the image bearing member, the discharging member discharging a first region of the image bearing member and a second region of the image bearing member, different from the first region in a direction of a generating line of the image bearing member; and a detecting device for detecting a current flowing through the charging member when the charging member is supplied with a predetermined voltage and charges the first region having been discharged by the discharging member and when the charging member also charges the second region having been discharged by the discharging member.

    • A method of manufacturing a ceramic electronic component having a dielectric ceramic and a conductor containing Ag as a main component, wherein a dielectric resonator with a high Q value is produced by heat treating at 400.degree. C. or more in an atmosphere containing 10% or less by volume of oxygen after sintering the dielectric ceramic. Using a BaO--TiO.sub.2 --Nd.sub.2 O.sub.3 --Bi.sub.2 O.sub.3 based composition (.epsilon..sub.r =92, Qf=5000 GHz) as a dielectric, a coaxial type dielectric ceramic is produced by granulating calcined powder of the dielectric and then compacting the powder, followed by sintering. A dielectric resonator of .lambda./4 is produced by coating the dielectric ceramic with Ag paste at a position other than either the upper or lower side and then burning the paste. Thereafter, the electrodes(1,4) are formed by burning the paste at 400.degree. C. or more in an atmosphere containing 10% or less by volume of oxygen. The coaxial type dielectric resonator accepts electromagnetic waves from the open end and obtains output by utilizing TEM mode.

    • A constrained quenching apparatus is provided for hardening a workpiece such as an asymmetrical bar which has a notable tendency to warping when quenched, without warping the workpiece. The apparatus comprises a set of two or more dies having plural projections provided on the inner side thereof, the projections coinciding with the contour of the workpiece when the dies are closed so that their die faces in contact with one another, and having plural recesses therein defined by the projections. The recesses are provided with one or more cooling liquid blow holes. The apparatus does not exert pressure on the workpiece at the start of the quenching when the workpiece is soft, so the flattening of the hollow workpiece such as a pipe, can be prevented.
