    • Techniques for IP flow mobility in a wireless data communications system, which allow for selective movement of IP data flows between different access networks supporting different access technology types. An access terminal (AT) is configured to selectively communicate using plural access technologies. Plural IP data flows are established between the AT and a first access network using a first technology type. A flow mobility trigger condition is detected, and in response, at least one IP data flow is moved to a second access network using a second technology, while maintaining at least another of the data flows to the first access network, and using the same IP address for the AT for data flows handled by both access networks, by using a mapping function between packet-filters for data flows and the access technology. The techniques may be used in conjunction with IP mobility protocols such as PMIP and CMIP.

    • Systems and methodologies are described herein that facilitate efficient packet differentiation and forwarding in a wireless communication system. As described herein, identifiers or tags (e.g., corresponding to radio bearers, logical channels, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, etc.) can be applied to respective packets based on their destinations as determined by traffic flow templates (TFTs) associated with the packets. Further, techniques are provided for establishing radio bearers, IP addresses, and/or other resources for transmission of packets associated with respective TFTs in a manner irrespective of associated quality of service (QoS) policies for the TFTs. Upon an establishment of resources, techniques are described herein for tagging packets with resources associated with TFTs corresponding to the packets to facilitate forwarding of respective packets to their intended destinations with lowered required processing cost. Additionally, techniques are described herein for offloading packet analysis and/or forwarding functionality from a terminal to a device tethered to the terminal.

    • Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate communicating encapsulation information for a related mobility protocol type utilized in communicating over a data flow with reduced specific implementation on the policy server to support different mobility protocol types. In this regard, encapsulation information can be transmitted to the policy server from a network gateway such that the policy server can forward the encapsulation information to a serving gateway along with policy rules related to a data flow type. The serving gateway can utilize the encapsulation information to detect and interpret the encapsulated data flow according to the policy rules. In this regard, the serving gateway can provide support (e.g. quality of service support) for the flow. The encapsulation information can relate to a mobility protocol type, an encapsulation header, an indication that encapsulation is required, parameters regarding locating an encapsulation header in a message, and/or the like.
