    • A liquid crystal device has a structure in which an electric field is applied across a liquid crystal in a direction substantially parallel to the plane of a substrate. A conductive film is formed on a first substrate on which an electric field control is provided, and also on a color filter substrate located opposite the first substrate, and the conductive films are maintained at either a ground voltage, a common electrode voltage, the center voltage of an image signal, a non-selection voltage of a scanning signal, or a logic voltage of an external driver or otherwise the voltage of the conductive films is maintained in a floating state. The liquid crystal device having the above structure displays a high-quality image without encountering an influence of electrostatic charges.

    • A swimming aid comprises a floating body and a bottom viewer and may be used at a swimming pool or in the sea. The floating body is U-shaped in cross section and has a hood at the top thereof. The floating portion buoyantly supports the upper half of the swimmer's body in the water. The bottom viewer is made of a transparent material such as vinyl chloride resin and takes the form of a dome. The bottom viewer is installed on the top of the hood and provides a wide forward or underwater view of the swimmer. The swimmer when laying with his body on the bottom of the floating body can swim without great resistance while looking forward or downwardly underwater through the bottom viewer.

    • A solar cell module according to the invention includes a solar cell; a light guiding portion including a first fluorescent substance having a faint color and that emits light having low luminosity factor, the light guiding portion absorbing part of light incident from the outside using the first fluorescent substance and transmitting a first light beam emitted from the first fluorescent substance toward the solar cell; and a converter disposed between the light guiding portion and the solar cell, the converter converting the first light beam incident from the light guiding portion into a second light beam to which the solar cell has higher spectral sensitivity than to the first light beam and causing the second light beam to be incident on the solar cell. Thus, when the solar cell module is used as a window, the solar cell module is highly transparent and highly efficiently generates power.
