    • A user interface system includes a user interface and a plurality of torsion bars. The user interface is configured to rotate, from a null position, about two perpendicular rotational axes. The plurality of torsion bars are coupled to the user interface and include two or more torsion bars disposed along a first one of the rotational axes and two or more torsion bars disposed along a second one of the rotational axes. Each torsion bar is configured to selectively supply a feedback force to the user interface that opposes the rotational direction and that varies as a function of the control position and the rotational direction. The system provides for the setting and adjustment of a preload force to the user interface, for retaining the set preload force, for passively returning the user interface to its null position, and for preventing each passive mechanism from introducing additional force into adjacent vectors.

    • A pilot flight control stick haptic feedback system includes a pilot user interface, a position sensor, a pilot motor, and a control circuit. The pilot user interface is movable to a position at a movement rate. The position sensor senses the position of the pilot user interface and supplies a pilot user interface position signal. The pilot motor is coupled to the pilot user interface, and receives pilot motor feedback signals. The pilot motor, in response to the pilot motor feedback signals, supplies feedback force to the pilot user interface. The control circuit determines one or more of the pilot user interface position, movement rate, aircraft control surface slew rate capacity, aircraft control surface load rate capacity, and aerodynamic stall risk and, based on at least a subset of these determinations, supplies pilot motor feedback signals to the pilot motor.

    • A rudder pedal mechanism is configured with foreign object strike tolerance and/or with an articulating brake. The foreign object strike tolerance is implemented via a force transfer mechanism that is responsive to an input force supplied to the rudder pedal. The force transfer mechanism is configured to supply a transfer force to a rudder position command unit when the input force is supplied in a first direction, and to not supply the transfer force to the rudder position command unit when the input force is supplied in the second direction and exceeds at least a predetermined force magnitude. The articulating brake is implemented via a brake rod assembly that is rotationally coupled to the rudder pedal, and includes a first rod that is rotationally coupled to the rudder pedal, and a second rod that surrounds at least a portion of the first rod.
