    • A fire suppression valve for use with a cannister of fire suppression material. The valve has a safety shuttle valve located in a discharge port for preventing unintended discharge of fire suppression material in the absence of connection to a discharge hose. The shuttle valve has an actuating surface and a body portion with shuttle ports. An outside end of the body portion projects into an outlet connection sized to receive the discharge hose. When the hose is connected, it abuts the outside end to support the shuttle valve in an open position. When the hose is removed, the shuttle valve is free to slide to a closed position, in which the actuating surface substantially blocks the discharge port. Accordingly, when the valve is triggered without an attached hose, the pressurized suppression material pushes against the actuating surface to move the shuttle valve to the closed position.

    • A quick-disconnect system for selectively connecting a slurry tank to a fluid supply line includes a first valve on the slurry tank and a second valve in the supply line fitting. Each of such valves includes a piston having a tapered neck extending from such valves. Each such piston slides within a cylinder having fluid passages extending through the walls of such cylinder, and each cylinder is received within a valve body. A biasing spring ordinarily advances such pistons to cause enlarged side wall portions of such pistons to seal the fluid passages that extend through the cylinders. Each piston has a tapered neck portion that extends outwardly from the valve, and upon connection of quick-disconnect system, the tapered neck portions of the pistons engage each other to simultaneously overcome the biasing springs. As each piston retracts, the enlarged side wall portions of the pistons slide past the fluid passages that extend through the cylinders, and are removed from the abrasive fluid flow path. The biasing springs are contained between the pistons and the closed ends of the cylinders, thereby isolating the biasing springs from the abrasive fluid flow path.

    • A breakaway hose coupling for releasably joining two fuel dispensing devices in fluid communication, and for selectively disengaging such dispensing devices in response to a disengaging force in excess of a preselected value being exerted on the coupling. The coupling (10) includes a first valve assembly (12) for being secured on a first dispensing device and for selectively terminating the flow of fluid from such dispensing device when the coupling (10) is uncoupled. The coupling (10) further includes a second valve assembly (14), including an elbow (72) and swivel connecting mechanism (70), for being secured on a second dispensing device and for selectively terminating the flow of fuel from such dispensing device when the coupling is uncoupled. Further, vapor conduits (28, 28A, 28B) are provided to accommodate the flow of recaptured fuel vapor through the coupling (10). The coupling (10) also includes automatic disconnect means (16) for maintaining the first and second valve assemblies (12, 14) in an engaged position in the absence of disengaging force in excess of a preselected value being applied to the coupling, and for disengaging the first and second valve assemblies (12, 14) in response to disengaging force in excess of such preselected value being applied to the coupling (10), whereupon the first and second valve assemblies (12, 14) terminate the flow of fluid from their operatively associated dispensing device.

    • A dry break coupling for joining together opposing passageways includes a male member and a female member, each of which includes a resiliently deformable rubber flap with cross-hair slits positioned to engage each other as the male and female members are moved axially toward their coupled position. Each of the male and female members also is provided with a normally closed but resiliently openable rubber septum position on the opposite side of its rubber flap from the engagement end of the respective members. The male member is provided with a blunt cannula which is fixed and a moveable carrier supporting the rubber septum. The female member is provided with an axially moveable support for the rubber flap and a fixed support for the rubber septum. As the male member and the female member move to the fully coupled position, the peripheral portions of the abutting rubber flaps are moved axially with the female carrier member while the central portions are prevented from moving by the fixed septum support with the result that the slits of the rubber flaps are pulled open thereby permitting the respective septums to engage each other. Further movement of the male and female members toward one another causes the moveable support for the male member septum to be retracted with the result that the cannula is urged through the resiliently openable abutting septums to open the passageway to the flow of fluid.

    • A fitting used to bridge a gap in a conduit between fixed ends of a conduit. The fitting includes a first collar at a first end of the fitting having an open end made to a dimension for fitting closely around one of the ends of the conduit, and the first end being flared inwardly of the open end so the first end of the fitting can be slid over the first end of the conduit, whilst the fitting is held angled axially relative to the conduit such that the second end of the conduit is positioned to one side of the conduit. The first collar is sufficiently deep to allow for the fitting to be slid over the first end of the conduit until the second end of the fitting is clear of a second end of the conduit. The fitting can then be pivoted so as to be in line with the conduit, and then slid back to connect with the second end of the conduit.
