    • An elevator system (20) includes a transceiver (22) that receives at least one wirelessly transmitted signal (24). In one example, a signaling device (26) includes a plurality of switches (28) that can be activated to provide a signal indicating a desired or intended destination. The signal also provides an indication of the individual from whom the signal is received. A system controller (30) responds to the signal by assigning an elevator car (32) to travel to the intended destination. When the elevator car (32) is situated to receive the individual, in the event that another wireless signal is received, the system provides at least one access feature including delaying closing an elevator car door or generating an audible sound to guide the individual to the car. In one example, the system maintains information regarding expected locations of individuals providing such signals to facilitate providing assistance to them for exiting a building, for example.

    • In an elevator system, it is assumed that an elevator user presses a key “1” on a numerical keypad of a destination call registration device on the second basement floor to go to the first floor on the second basement level. In this case, the destination call registration device converts key information corresponding to the key “1” into floor information by using building specification data. The destination call registration device generates a destination call registration request which includes the floor information whereto the operation key information is converted and which requests registration of a destination call, and sends the destination call registration request to the group management control device. The group management control device registers the destination call for a destination floor indicated in the floor information included in the destination call registration request. The group management control device sets building specification data and sends the building specification data to the respective destination call registration devices. The destination call registration device uses the building specification data sent from the group management control device for conversion.

    • A method of controlling an elevator installation having an elevator car transporting passengers between floors of a building inputs destinations of the passengers into a destination call control and books destination calls and determines an instantaneous load disposed in the elevator car with a load measuring device at a fixable point in time. In order to make uniform the waiting times of the passengers in the case of incorrect operation of the destination call control and to ensure, for all passengers, an optimized transport time with maximum transport capacity the method additionally compares the instantaneous load with a full load parameter and in the case of exceeding of the full load parameter activating a bypass function those floors for which destination calls are booked and which are passed during a half circuit of the fully loaded elevator car.

    • A method for adapting to observed special use patterns a neural network used to estimate quantities needed by an elevator dispatching system responsible for assigning the elevator or another elevator to a hall call. Rather than simply refining values of existing connection weights to train the neural network to provide acceptable outputs for predetermined inputs, the method analyzes use information to determine whether additional inputs to the neural network might be advantageous and what those inputs might be. If so, the method alters the neural network architecture by providing new input nodes and corresponding connection weights, the connection weights having initially relatively small values. All connection weights can then be adjusted during actual operation of the elevator to accommodate the new input nodes.

    • An elevator system (FIG. 1) employing a microprocessor-based group controller (FIG. 2) communicating with elevator cars (3, 4, . . . ) to affect the assignment of cars to hall calls at a plurality of floors in the building, using different, speedier car motion profiles and system motion parameters when the presence of a passenger crowd is predicted (FIGS. 3-5). When a large passenger crowd presence is predicted, each of the assigned car(s) going to the relevant floor(s) is given a higher jerk and acceleration and deceleration rates for improved service time and decreased waiting time. (See FIG. 5.) When such a passenger crowd presence is no longer predicted (crowd signal reset), the car reverts back to a profile with a lower jerk and acceleration and deceleration rates for enhanced passenger comfort. The prediction methodology used for the predicted presence of a crowd utilizes "artificial intelligence" logic.

    • An elevator system including a variable speed motive means is disclosed wherein the motive means is controlled in response to a selected motion profile to effect desired operation of the elevator car. Multiple elevator car motion profiles are stored and a appropriate profile is selected to operate the elevator car such that the level of service necessary to meet demand is provided while operating the elevator cars at reduced acceleration and jerk rates to provide increased ride comfort. Appropriate motion profiles are selected based on factors such as demand for elevator service and whether the building is in an up-peak or down-peak traffic period.
