A drag mechanism (6) has a brake portion (26) having a brake disc (55) disposed coaxially with the spool and cooperating with the spool, and a frictional disc (56) disposed to face and to be pressingly contactable with the brake disc and being unrotatable in a fishing line feed direction, and a spool shaft moving mechanism (25) for braking the spool by the relative movement between the brake disc and the frictional disc in the press contact direction. The brake diameter is 90% or more of a fishing line windable diameter of the spool. In the double bearing reel, the drag mechanism suppresses pressure force enhancing brake performance.

    • In a handle for a fishing reel, a support shaft is fixedly secured at one end to a distal end of a handle arm by compressive clamping in such a manner that the support shaft projects from the handle arm. The tubular stem of a handle piece is rotatably mounted on the outer periphery of the support shaft, and is retained by a retaining member against disengagement therefrom. A grip portion integral with the tubular stem has a cavity extending between opposite ends of the grip portion. A pair of caps closing the opposite open ends are detachably fixed to the grip portion by a resilient member. The handle is light weight, and thus can be operated with a small amount of force.

One or more radially-extending blades are formed in the cheekplate and project into the recessed annular portion so that on rotation of the spool, each blade emits a characteristic clicking noise when its free end is raised by passing over a stud and falls back against the upright of the fixed support.

The inventive device includes an elongate spool shaft having proximal and distal ends which is designed for inserting through the bore of a spool of fishing line to rotatably mount the spool on the spool shaft. Coupled to the proximal end of the spool shaft, is a flexible base. A mounting member is coupled to the flexible base. The mounting member has a mounting channel that extends between its ends for receiving the shaft of a fishing rod therein. An elongate flexible strap has a hole through which extends the spool shaft so that the flexible base is positioned adjacent the second surface of the flexible strap. On each of the surfaces of the flexible strap is a coupling portion positioned towards opposite ends of the flexible strap. The coupling portions are detachably couplable to one another when the elongate strap is wrapped around the outer surface of the mounting member so that the mounting member is held to the shaft of a fishing rod.

    • A device for supplying fishing line to a fish reeling device from a spool of bulk fishing line and measuring the length of line pulled from the spool by the reeling device. The bulk spool is supported for rotation about a horizontal axis at one end of a T-shaped supporting structure. The other crossed end of the structure carries a flat thin and relatively large diameter circumferentially grooved pulley supported for rotation about a horizontal axis parallel to the spool's axis of rotation. The crossed end also carries a mounting bracket for securing the location of the measuring device along and just off the edge of a flat table, convenient relative to the reeling device. The pulley is manually accessible around its entire periphery and has a shallow groove of semicircular cross section and an inner circumference of predetermined length at the bottom of the groove. A guide member having a line-encirclable manually line-threadable guide portion extends from the T-shaped structure between the spool and the pulley at the plane of the pulley for guiding line from the spool to tangentially enter the pulley groove which is manually accessible to enable line extending from the guide member to be manually wrapped once around the pulley in frictional contact in said groove with the line extending further to the reeling device to drive the pulley when the line is pulled during reeling. Line length is indicated by a counter registering pulley revolutions each of which equals one foot.
